Manchester United have now gone 13 games without defeat this season, two short of equalling the club record, set in the 1985-86 campaign.

After the visit of Wigan, they have another home game, against Blackburn. If they avoid defeat in those two games they can set a new club record at Blackpool, on December 14.

If they reach the 16-game mark it will be the second best unbeaten start to a Premier League term, coming behind Arsenal’s 38-game unbeaten campaign (in the 2003-04 season).

United have not lost in the league since April, at home to Chelsea. In total they have gone 18 games without loss.

And past results against Wigan suggest another game to add to their record start: in 11 meetings in all competitions, United have won all 11.
