A Press Release by the US Government through its Department of Justice, U.S. Attorney’s Office in Northern District of Georgia has indicted MD & CEO of Air Peace for bank fraud and money laundering.

The press release emphasised that "Members of the public are reminded that the indictment only contains charges. The defendants are presumed innocent of the charges and it will be the government’s burden to prove the defendant’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt at trial.

The Drug Enforcement Administration, Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations, Federal Aviation Administration, Department of Commerce, and Department of Treasury are investigating this case."

However, this is can be considered a sad day for Nigerian Aviation industry as the indictment casts negative perception on the business and its promoter, Chief Allen Onyeama.

In fact, the way the press release reads, you'll just know that they used the part alleging that the accused remains innocent until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt, as a smokescreen.

Where my fear lies is where the indicted do win this case, the damage would have been done - no company would be interested in getting into the same boat with an indicted business especially when it is connected with a Nigerian.
