Oduduwa was a Yoruba divine king and the first Ooni of Ile-Ife, the Yoruba holy city. He was not only the first ruler of a unified Ife, but also the progenitor of various independent royal dynasties in Yorubaland, and is today venerated as “the hero, the warrior, the leader and father of the Yoruba people”.

Divine? He was just able to dislodge Obatala who was the leader of Ife bowl confederation. Obatala came across as a weakling and a drunk so there was internal crisis of the confederation. When Olugbo of Igbo ( Obateru Akinrintan) was making some statements last year about his throne higher than that of Ooni. He was referring to the civil war that took place in late 9th century that brought the emergence of Oduduwa who was more courageous, energetic and preferred by other members of the confederation. You may read professor Akintoye's 500 page of History of Yoruba published around 2009 or so.

Being a decedent of Lamurudu confirms the authenticity of some findings in Ancient Near East Studies ( ANES). Lamurudu is the same as Nimrod he was a descendant of Noah ( Lua or Uwa in Yoruba the benchmark of character and modern Yoruba IWA. Yoruba will say of a person with good character, " omoluabi". That is omo ti Luabi). If check Yoruba creation story, it is akin to that of major Near East accounts including that of the Bible). Gogobiri people? They were pre Oduduwa era Ice bowl people trading as far as Soudan ( google the word Soudan before 1900).

Oduduwa was a man with flesh and blood. That he possessed metaphysical power? Oh yes. Just like Ogun who was adept in smelting iron to make various implements in exchange for palm wine. Ogun's real name is Lakaiye (Olakariaye). Probably because of his trade.

In modern scholarship, we must separate myths from actual events.

Oduduwa was simply a lost prince from benin who had a warm welcome by the ife people ,because of his royal and heavenly looking edo regalia
so they easily mistook him for the god prince they had along been waiting for. in thier historical prophecy....
They saw his magical skills and made him king....
. thats why the Edo's have this saying edo o dion meaning edo is senior.....

This is not likely because there were kingdoms closer to Benin other than Ile Ife such as Owo, Akoko, Oke Ondo and Ogotun and Ire ( in Ekiti) Kingdoms. All these kingdoms were elus as at the time of Ife confederation. If a prince would run away, it could have been the closest kingdoms.

That you read an Edo account does not validate your point. You need to compare many accounts before you can conclude in modern scholarship. QED

I don't think it is a forced semitic .The journey started from the east. Those who are close neighbors to Yoruba include Gbaggyi, Gwari, Igala and so on. So many ethnic nations points back to the distant Nimrod. The Ewe of Ghana share similar sentiment of Lamurudu. The Akans of Ghana share the same. I am not surprised of their AKWABA which means welcome which means Eku abo in Yoruba
