It was a gathering of great individuals championing the second anniversary celebration of Foundation for Wives of Ondo State official, FOWOSO, tagged "Prioritizing Women's Health And Well Being In Nigeria". It was held on December 4th, 2019 at the International Event Centre, DOME, Igbatoro road Akure, Ondo State.

The event was organized by the wife of Ondo state Governor, Mrs. Betty-Anyanwu Akeredolu through the Foundation For Wives Of Ondo State Officials (FOWOSO).

Mrs. Akeredolu whose numerous giant strides in service to humanity and breast cancer awareness, has received commendation from prestigious authorities across the nation and beyond is also known for being a backbone to her husband’s administration, whose vision is to further empower women in the state, implement gender balanced policies and other issues that could aid in the development of the state.

Mrs. Akeredolu For her commitment towards women and girl child empowerment in the society, was described as the first point of contact on issues concerning women and children by the honourable Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Dame Pauline Tallen, during her visit to Ondo state for the 19th National Women Council Meeting.

Before her emergence as the First Lady, she has been an agitator for gender equity and other issues concerning women. She is known for human capital building, which is the core value of FOWOSO initiative. In the past two years, she has affected lives in numerous ways through her empowerment packed programme.

In 2018, Mrs. Akeredolu created employment for rural women with little or no means of livelihood by distributing grinding machines, Hair drying machines, Sewing machines, Refrigerators, Generators as well as skills aquization training to enable them earn a living and take care of their families.

Also, she prepares the girl child towards becoming better and resourceful women tomorrow in the society through her life changing programme, BEMORE initiative. BEMORE initiative is a platform that empowers the girl child in the state and trains them to be more for their families and the society at large.

The consequent BEMORE Summer BootCamp has witnessed her excellency disbursing Hybrid laptop computers to secondary school girls. So far, over 1000 girls has been trained in ICT, Solar energy technology and skills acquisition. All is geared towards ensuring that every girl child in Ondo State and beyond becomes productive.

As a breast cancer survivor, the first lady engaged in the business of breast cancer awareness creation, where she teaches women on the need for early detection while providing free cancer screening, preventive therapy, palliative care and succor for women living with breast or cervical cancer through the Breast Cancer Association Of Nigeria (BRECAN) which she is a founding member. And all these have helped a lot of women.

This year's Summit, drew its focus on women’s health and wellbeing in Nigeria. With keynotes delivered by Arabinrin Betty-Anyanwu Akeredolu, wife of Ondo State Governor and founder of FOWOSO initiative.

During her speech, the First Lady declared that she will not faint until she sees women everywhere being treated with as much respect as their male counterparts.
Mrs Akeredolu emphasized that the greatest error this nation has made and continues to make is denying the womenfolk equal right to socio-economic privileges by upholding cultural norms and traditions that discriminate against them.

Also the chairman of the occasion, Prof Modupe Adelabu, former Deputy Governor of Ekiti State commends the effort of the wife of Ondo State Governor towards women and children driven empowerment programme as she encouraged other leaders to ensure that every girl child is empowered.


Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN, during the event stated that this administration is focused on women and children empowerment which is why the government launched the and Contributory Healthcare Delivery Insurance Scheme that allows free medical services to pregnant women and children under 5 years of age in Ondo state.

The highlight of the event witnessed the presentation of 100,000, 50,000 and 25, 000 naira respectively to the winners of crawlers competition. While presenting the cash to the parents of these children Mrs Akeredolu noted that the essence of the game is to bond as well as promote love and unity among families.

Opinion leaders and women advocates, trailed the audience with insightful notes on women's health and well-being as a way of facilitating healthy living among the women folks.

Opportunities were given to the audience to express their views and ask questions as regard to health challenges after which solution were proferred by the renowned career and health activist.

The event came to an end with Ondo State women fully sensitized on the essence of good living and measures to forestall health challenges to the safety and wellbeing of their loved ones.
