Contrary to what some Nigerians posit, daddy (as opposed to papa or father) is not an indication of elite status.

Its simply an informal version of father.

Daddy might have gotten into modern Nigerian lexicon as a newer word after colonization, however, I'm of the opinion many Yoruba or Nigerian words we use today, were unknown centuries before. Change is a constant thing.

When/if your dad is late, does that mean he never existed? And your link to him has ended? Do you substitute your late dad with another, as an adult?
