Pros of IPS
Best color reproduction: IPS screens have the best colors, and is far better than the Samsung screens. This is evident from the good colors that you could see in iPhone or high end HTC smartphones.

Sharper: Images are clear and sharp in smartphones with IPS panels.

Best viewing angle: When compare to the AMOLED panels, the IPS provides better viewing angle.

Intense white color: A high brightness, compared to AMOLED. Intensity difference is clearly visible, leaving the opponent closer to gray or off white.

Improved response time: The response time is better when compared to the original TFT and on average outperform AMOLED panels.

Cons of IPS
Need a strong backlight: This results in a higher energy consumption, which is a weak point in any type of device. This results in much faster battery draining.

Consumes more energy: Not only by the backlight, but by the architecture of the panel, energy requirement is high.

Causes thicker terminals: Due to the backlight requirement, the manufacturer will have to increase their efforts on internal engineering or sacrifice some components to maintain the slimness.

Pros of AMOLED
The panels are thinner: Allows for slimmer devices. For a thickness identical to AMOLED, IPS device manufacturers need to put in more effort and sacrifices.

No need of backlighting: This eliminates cost, component thickness, occupying space, and energy demand.

Intense black color

High Battery Life: An AMOLED consumes less power than IPS.

High Contrast: AMOLED provide better contrast ratios.

Cons of AMOLED
Expensive production: The tech needed to develop AMOLED panels is very expensive.

Low definition images: The silhouettes of the objects are less sharp, and mostly fades into the background.

Low brightness: And we all know what this means: less visibility in daylight or cloudy outdoors.

Low lifetime: OLED and AMOLED panels degrades faster when compared to the IPS LCD. Most estimates say 14,000 hours as life time of the panel. IPS easily has a lifetime up to 60,000 hours. In the case of smartphones is not a major problem. 14,000 hours is equivalent to 8 hours daily for 5 years. But overall, the color blue is the first that begins to degrade in AMOLED. Recent advances in AMOLED have achieved lifetimes of 62,000 hours for blue and 198,000 hours for green.

Environmental impact: The AMOLED panels are very difficult and expensive to recycle.

Who wins?
Clearly, there is no winner or loser. Both have their pros and cons. Some of the users are fans of AMOLED whereas others are of IPS. For a casual user whose usage limits to checking mails and running low end applications, AMOLED is the best display for him. If you are a gamer and share screens with your friends, or need to run artistically intense applications, IPS is the best choice for you.

You partially support IPS to AMOLED..Uhm that's biasness
