The founder and leader of Kharis Church in the United Kingdom, Pastor David Antwi has said that anyone who plays instruments in church and collects money is a thief.

Pastor David Antwi stated this during a church service. He said such a person is satan’s cousin.


Antwi called all the instrumentalists in his church to the front of the congregation and told them that:

“If you play the instruments in church and you collect money, you are a thief,” He said

Pastor David Antwi’s assertion has garnered several reactions on the internet, majorly negative comment with some questioning where this was stated in the bible and a few also questioning his calling.

Many are of the opinion that instrumentalists or musicians working in the church should be paid for their skills.

The question is, Is it advisable to pay instrumentalists in CHURCH?

What about collecting salary as a pastor?

But he'll go to preach in another church and will expect honorarium abi?

Shey he doesn't know that nothing is free even in Freetown?

Am in support of this. If instrumentalists are to be paid for their skills, then all the choir members should also be paid for their singing skills. Ordinary members should be paid for their clapping and dancing skills since we are no longer in church to praise God. Like someone said that the only time they to be paid is only if instrumentalists are not members of the church.

All gifts and talents comes from God, no one is self made but created and made by God. God says "we should honour Him with our substances." Gifts and talents like spiritual gifts, skills, godly ideas and creativities, time, money, food, and other material things are God's substances given to us. Instrumentalist as a believer of Christ should honour God with his skills willingly (Romans12:1).

Motive of expecting payment and also being paid in the church is an insult to the maker and is not a good idea but being taking care of as a lacking or needy person is a godly idea. Motive has more regard than act itself, so the instrumentalist should cultivate and captivate the habit of godly motive of playing instrument willingly and sacrificially without expecting payment. He can express his needy desires as a person/believer, not for the skill that belongs to God. He that gives(soul, breath, life, talent, skills, etc) will surely take it back & we'll give account of it each.

There's this video which was making the rounds on the internet which has drawn the attention of 'Musicians both in Ghana, Nigeria and expansively in Africa' as whole.
The pastor in charge and founder of Kharis Church in the United Kingdom, Pastor David Antwi has bluntly said and I quote "Any Instrumentalist who collects money from the Church is a Thief and the cousin to Satan...", his statement also triggered him to call out his instrumentalists in other to buttress his affirmation.

This statement had drawn lots of crossfire opinions and counter statements on his judgmental conclusion on musicians and their wages collecting


I will be sharing my own candid opinion on this matter from my professional perspective of being a key player in this field for way over 25 years of playing active part in this field here in Nigeria without Prejudice....
