*The Use of PKC and Oil in Poultry Nutrition*

PKC is the major by-product of palm kernel oil extraction. Incorporation of PKC in poultry diets is limited by its high fibre level, gritty nature, unpalatability and relatively low levels of amino acids (AA). PKC has been found to contain between 16.0 to 21.3% crude protein (CP) with a low content of lysine, methionine, histidine and threonine. The crude fibre (CF) content ranges from 6.7% to 17.5%. The high fibre content affect the digestibility of the ingredients. PKC also contain Non - starch polyssacharide , which affect the intake and utilization of this ingredients.

PKC in poultry is variable due to low digestive enzymic activity and their tendency to create a viscous environment in the intestinal lumen. However, it can be broken down with the help of enzymes produced by the caecal microflora or by supplementation of poultry diets with specific enzymes.

Enzyme supplementation is well documented as effective in breaking polymeric chains of NSPs and improve the nutritive value of fibrous feedstuffs However, due to variation in the chemical structure of these feedstuffs, a combination of various non-starchpolysaccharide enzymes has been recommended to enhance better digestibility of non starch polysaccharides.

If you want to get result using Pkc, you need to supplement with multi enzymes

Summary: Pkc is high in fiber and NSP which affects the digestibility , Intake and performance of the animal. You can get better result by supplementing with enzyme

How to increase the feed energy with addition of oil.

Vegetable oil is very reach in energy to about 7000 kil/cal which is over x2 of maize energy.

The usage is very good when formulating diet for starter be turkeys or broilers due to the high energy requirement.

Few advantage of Oil in feed.
1. It serves as huge source of energy.
2. It serves as a carrier for fat soluble vitamins.
3. It improves palatibility of feed.
4. It helps to reduce dustiness in feed and thus improves the feed texture.
5. It help to reduce loss of micro nutrient in feed.
6. It also serves as good binder in pellet feeds.

Few disadvantages

1. rancidity.
It is the spoilage of Oil, it occur when oil is stored over a long period of time or even short period when the storage condition is not favourable. Antioxidant is the key as he has right said in the writeup.

2. Slow digestibility, it requires some enzymes for breaking it down to small molecules for fast and proper digestion.
The enzymes requires for digestion of Oil is called lipase. Lipase is produced in the mouth and stomach but we still need to had our normal table enzymes to it in order to augment the one the body system will produce itself.

3. It increases the body stress during digestion, addition of dietary fibre will help and proper feeding time.
