The human resource department has definitely come a long way since its days as a department that was just responsible for hiring and firing. Modern HR department is gaining importance in organizations where disruption has become a new norm. Whether it is the technology trends that have seeped into the HR department or the HR professionals who are more tech-savvy as compared to their predecessors.

The interesting thing to note here is that the entire HR profession has gone for an overhaul and HR professionals are more tech-oriented. They seek active participation in the decision making aspect of the business and want to be involved in all the aspects of HR functions along with other business decisions. No longer is the HR career filled with boring, conservatively dressed ladies; in fact, the current HR career is the one that millennials seek and go after because there is lots of tech involvement.

So if you have been a go-getter HR professional and now seek a leadership position as a human resource manager, keep reading as there are just a few easy steps to become an HR manager.

But before that remember that an HR manager is someone who is a bridge between the management and the employees. So if you are planning to step up in your HR career as an HR professional in the managerial role then understand that you would require at least a Bachelor’s degree either in HR or business administration. In most cases organizations also seek candidates with a Master’s degree in the above-mentioned fields. In addition, about five years of experience is also required.

While you may have heard that certifications in HR are voluntary, the current scenario is that if you are a certified HR professional then the chances of your promotion becomes double.

Why are certifications so important?

Certifications are a third party validated proof of your knowledge and skills so when you present an
HR certification
to the prospective employer they instantly know that you are dedicated to your profession and would do anything to stay abreast of the latest trends in the industry.

And certification combined with your experience presents a combo that your employer would not be able to ignore while selecting employees for the coveted promotion to the post of Human Resource Manager.

In a nutshell, here’s how you can become an HR manager

1. Earn a relevant Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in HR or business administration
2. Gain some work experience by working as an intern and at entry-level positions
3. Once you feel that you have gained enough experience you can apply for a managerial position
4. Strengthen your position with an HR certification from reputed credentialing bodies.

These are some of the ways you can aspire to become an HR manager.
