It is said that, 'a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step'. As a candidate, what steps have you put in place to pass your 2020 JAMB examination?

The JAMB examinations for 2020 is around the corner. This is usually a daunting, nerve-rattling and mind-racking time for 'JAMBITES' (Jamb examination candidates). The JAMB examination is an examination held in Nigeria for students who have gone through the primary and secondary school educational system and wish to further their studies in the University. The reputation of the examination exceeds its name. It is considered by many a Nigerian student as the most difficult and thoroughly organised examination to ever be taken in the country. Annually, fresh graduands from secondary schools across Nigeria, queue up in unending lines to gain access into designated large halls that has been chosen as the citadels of the examination. After the examinations, comes the result. The result part of this phenomenon has also attained nation-wide talking points. The JAMB results have attained notoriety for being always poor. This is coming from claims from candidates that the examination results do not reflect their efforts in the actual writing of the exam. This puts many freethinkers in a conundrum as to whether to decide if the fault was with JAMB marking scheme or the intellectual inadequacy and poor preparation on the part of students. We may never know. One thing however is certain, there have always been candidates who did exceedingly well in JAMB and there always will be. So, we now ask ourselves, what's the gig? What can make JAMB examinations a 'walk in the park'? Below are several factors which I have penned down which I believe should be vital to aiding the potential JAMB candidate in sitting for and passing a JAMB examination. It's like I will always say, 'being there, done that'.

1. MAKE THE DECISION TO SIT FOR A JAMB EXAMINATION FROM SS2.
Some senior students in secondary schools in Nigeria are what I would call, 'late bloomers'. I call them 'late bloomers' not because they only showcase their talents and skills only until later, but because they are notorious for making very late academic decisions. A student who aims at gaining admission into a university immediately after secondary school, must endeavour to start the preparation process as early as he/she can afford. Several considerations must be put in place, especially as it regards to grades and school work and where it is needful that an improvement should occur, more effort is put in to spearhead the improvement. All of these should advisably begin from the Senior Secondary School, SS2 class.

2. SUCCEED AT PASSING YOUR WAEC EXAMINATION FIRST.

It's the trend in these times that students no longer consider the West African Examination Council (WAEC) examinations 'important' as they consider that of JAMB. Nowadays, immediately after sitting for a WAEC examination, students just rush into purchasing JAMB examination forms and sitting for JAMB exams without a concise knowledge of what their WAEC results would tell. They forget that the WAEC examinations is more of a 'MOCK' exam for JAMB. Sitting for the WAEC examination is an invaluable experience on its own. An experience that can grant you an advantageous edge over the complexity of JAMB examination. It always behooves a student to comfortably pass a WAEC exam before venturing into writing a JAMB examination.

3. STUDY JAMB PAST QUESTIONS ON YOUR INTENDED MAJOR.

It is said that, 'preparation rids suprises'. Studying JAMB past questions gives one a revelation on how JAMB examinations are structured and avails one the strategies in tackling its questions.

4. SEEK OUT ADVICE FROM FAMILIARS AND ACQUAINTANCES WHO MAY HAVE WRITTEN JAMB BEFORE.

No man is an island of himself. This is very true for anyone who wishes to live a long time here on earth. We all learn from each other. As a JAMB candidate, your best shot at getting things right when you step into the examination hall, is seeking and heeding the advice of those who have sat for and succeeded in the JAMB examination before you. Their advice gives you foresight and allows you to meander through complex arrangements associated with JAMB examinations and activities.
