Tuberous sclerosis is an autosomal dominant disease that occurs as a result of mutations in the genes TSC1 and TSC2 - which are tumor suppressor genes. This mutation causes uncontrolled growth of cells in different organs, though the new growths are benign in nature, they are capable of limiting the functions of the affected organs especially the brain, heart, kidneys and skin.
