I respect culture until the culture is crap. Then it needs to be flushed just like killing twins.

The father of a child is the father, it is not "white" but just logic.

Some people don't know the meaning of father

Please on a more sincere note let us all try and respect tradition.

That child in Igbo tradition rightfully belongs to chioma's father.

How can Davido be claiming a child he hasn't done. Anything on the mothers head. It is fully reserved for chioma's father to either allow the child to go over to David or not.

If he decides tomorrow that this child will be part of his land inheritance and will take his share as his son. He is right.

I am yet to come to terms how this child belongs to david.

The twitter user was right.

Finally, judges that are versed in people's tradition will try such case and on merit of it.

Tradition is vain, dying, and dead!!!...

Lol.

Culture Ko, cultural dance ni.

Davido owns the child even if he doesn’t eventually marry Chioma.

In Yoruba culture, baba omo lo lomo (the father owns the child).

Even in the court of law, the father owns the child.
Yoruba get culture? Her parents are not just interested in all that cultural stuff...Even in court of law, a child u didnt pay a price on the mother does not belong to you, cos the woman is still under her father. U must buy the land b4 u can claim the tree and the mango..

The same way female inheritance was decided on.

When culture is tangential to law, the law is first considered. Davido is the father and according to the laws of Nigeria, it ends there.

You asked how Davido is the father. The law does not see the woman as an incubator owned by her father and he sells his ownership to her husband when she marries. The law sees the woman as a full individual capable of owning herself amd her decisions.

In this situation, the baby is Chioma and Davido's. Chioma's father does not even come into the picture.

If Davido is decided by the court to be lacking in ability to raise a child, he is still the father but the baby will live elsewhere as decided by the court. But to say that the baby belongs to the grandfather is jokes.

no mind them,if na so everybody go dey claim mr right, bcus am nt sure every one married d tradition way...thanx

Laws and traditions in Nigeria are for the poor. Trust me, Chioma's village would even partner Rochas to erect Davido's statue in the village square as appreciation for choosing their daughter as baby mama.

You are talking nonsense. Customary laws are sacrosanct. Traditional marriage is even more sacrosanct that white wedding.

That marriage has not been properly customarily consumated and remain illegal If Chioma's father drags Davido to court, he will win.

Nope.. He won't win sh*t! The constitutional laws governing parenthood supersede any dying or moribund traditional law... Next!!!

Please ar u a lawyer and what is actually law about this. Is it just the sake of being the biological father of the baby or there is any other thing that we may need to understand.
Traditionally in Igbo land if a man has not paid the bride price of the woman, the father of the woman owns the child.
The father and mother of the baby are the legal parents.

The woman is not an incubator. It is the position of the constitution

It's just funny how people keep shouting it is like that in so so so and so tradition. Doesn't the man has tradition and culture. If the wife's tradition dictates it so,then the husband's tradition dictates it otherwise. Your tradition can only be binding on one who understands it and is part and parcel of it not on one respects recognises it for tolerance sake.

I don't know how these guys used to think..

Davido as it stands now is not the rightful owner of that child.

How can you claim a child you've not done anything on the mothers' head.

Chioma's father has greate and 100 percent claim on the child than Davido...........Thats just the fact.
False.
I have heard that narrative from so many igbo people that a child from your own DNA is not yours until you pay bride price on the mothers head. That can apply in an Igbo only country, but in Nigeria, the constitution reigns supreme.

According to the Nigerian constitution, as long as you can prove in a court of law that the baby matches your DNA 99.99%, you have parental rights. If your child's mother and family abduct your child to their villages in Igboland, you sue their ass to court.

I don't know how some igbos think their own culture will supersede other people's culture in Nigeria, the same way Fulanis think their cultural laws is above the Nigerian constitution. In yoruba culture, once a woman borns for you, she is automatically assumed to be your wife - bride price or not. The baby is accorded all rights as a child of the family.

Please say "some part" of Igboland.

You people should stop using the traditions and cultures in Anambra and Imo states as the traditions of the entire Igboland.

That's not the tradition or culture in my hometown - Abiriba, Abia state. In my hometown, if you impregnated any woman you are automatic the rightful owner of the child.

In Igboland every parts has their own cultures and traditions. We don't have anything like OSU in my hometown. And no barbing of widow's hair.

That must be a Biafran court according to Biafran constitution. According to the Nigerian constitution (and Yoruba culture), once it's proven that the baby belongs to the man. The child belongs to both father and mother.

Just according to Igbo culture.

A child's father is determined by DNA so it will take a few court interpretations before Davido claims back his son even if Chioma is married to a king.

You talk as if Yorubas have no tradition where the man owns the child whether he marries the woman or not.

What you opined can only happen if they are both Igbo couple.

This is a clash of traditions and anyone inheriting Yoruba child is signing up his death penalty; David already said that!

Exactly! only the law will prevail over such issue and we all know what d judgement will be.
