- Angola has placed an immigration ban on travellers from seven countries amid fear of coronavirus spread
- A statement released by Angolan health minister said travellers from China, South Korea, Nigeria, Egypt and others will be denied entry henceforth
- The country also gave directives to all transportation companies to notify their customers of the new development
As part of control measures towards preventing the
outbreak of deadly coronavirus, Angola has placed
an immigration restriction on seven countries with
records of reported cases of the spreading
epidemic. Legit.ng notes that since its outbreak in China, coronavirus has been responsible for thousands of
death with over 89,000 people across 58 countries
already put on the red line of the infection. With the death toll standing on over 3,000 marks,
Angolan authorities have banned nationals of
seven countries from entering their country
pending the time the virus would cease from
posing threats to the international community.
A statement released by minister of health of the
country said travellers from China, South Korea,
Nigeria, Egypt, Iran, Italy and Algeria will not be
allowed into the country henceforth, Angolan Press
Agency reports. The source, however, clarified that nationals of the
aforementioned countries who travelled from a
third country would not be denied entry into the country.
According to Latino-America press, Angola has also
told the transportation companies across the
country to notify their customers of the new
guidelines. The country also vowed that transportation
companies who violate the new rule will be held
responsible for the immediate repatriation of the travellers.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that Adeleke Mamora, minister of state for health, said regular
washing of hands with soap and water is "critical" to preventing
contracting of the deadly coronavirus. Coronavirus: C/River uses traditional system for
campaigns, monitors 5 foreigners Speaking on Channels TV's Sunrise Daily on
Monday, March 2, the health minister said the
country is making a strong push towards curbing
the epidemic since the first case recorded. Mamora also said that all hands are on deck to
ensure that all the control processes are
strengthened, advising the general public on the
need for regular washing of their hands with water
and soap.

Nigeria? We shouldn't be on that list because only few cases have been confirmed. Rather than ban, why not take scrutiny measures and quarantine travellers?

But then, seems every country is using Nigeria to shine these days!
