Those of you that are not from Benin will never understand what the Oba is and means to the Benin person, you can only argue the issues according to the important your tribes have for your traditional institutions.

Irrespective of what the constitution says, there is no Benin man or Edo man that will ever contemplate dethroning the Oba of Benin, just as there is no sane Muslim that can insults prophet Mohamed or sane Christian insults Jesus.

The Oba of Benin is in the same level of reverence to these holy prophets to the average Benin person irrespective of his/her religion.

The Oba is Benin and Benin is the Oba, they are intertwined, this is why no Benin man can do it because it will amount to him dethroning himself spiritually.

If it's done by the federal government or anybody else, the people will not accept or recognise it. The Oba is the Oba because of the people and because the people accept him to be and not because he was appointed by the government. The staff of office from the governor is just ceremonial and nothing else.

The Benin people carry the Oba in their hearts and souls, it's a spiritual and cultural thing that none Benins cannot understand.

The Oba is the source of pride of the average Benin person, that is why the average Benin person will feel personal pain and insulted ianyone dear insults the Oba.

These make the Benin people very unique and different from other Nigerians.

The only way it can happen is to dethrone the entire Benin from Nigeria.

Anyone that still wants to argue otherwise can argue with themselves.

The government does not operate in vacuum and it's actions can only be effective when the people accept it. No government would like to take action that can lead to mass civil disobedience.

You are very correct .
Oba of Benin can never be replaced .
If the British couldn’t, no governor can date.

One certain foolish Igbo military governor that ruled Bendel state once tried to suspend the former Oba.... go and read what happened to him and his family last last.

Spear me these Bullcrap. The Oba might not be removed for flimsy things like Sanusi was, but if he commit a serious crime like rape or murder, would he still retain his throne?

He would be arrested but cannot be replaced. He can only be replaced if he is dead. No matter how powerful a Governor is, he is not the kingmaker. There are certain chieftaincy titles who are responsible for coronating an oba and I can tell you they wouldn't dare it while the oba is still alive in prison somewhere. Public acceptance is the real issue

There is constitution. Then there is reality.

And what is reality?

What is the reality of Sanusi Lamido losing his throne?

Oh, wait. You are talking about jazz. Ok. The same jazz they can't employ to better the lives of Benin people?

You guys will just wake up and start manufacturing stories.

Which oba of Benin once bowed down to an Emir of Kano.

What year did this happen?

What is the name of the Emir and name of the Oba?

Your copy and paste story also stated that the Oba of Benin removed his crown, where did you ever see the Oba of Benin put on his crown outside of his palace and Benin

Which law in Nigeria says one first class king must bow to another first class king.

The Oba of Benin wears his crown for special ceremonies within the palace not for visitation.

You guys just can't leave Benin alone when manufacturing your stories and writing rubbish, you must mention Benin somewhere for legitimacy.

Benin has become a Reference point for mischievous story tellers.

The Emir of Kano was dethroned and Oba of Benin became to subject of debate, is oba of Benin the only king in Nigeria, why didn't someone open a thread about the Ooni of Ife, Alafin of Oyo or Obi of Onitsha, because you guys know that no any other king in Nigeria generates more interest compared to the Oba of Benin.

Igbos can't write their Nri and Arochukwu history without mentioning and Benin becoming the subject matter.

Yorubas can't write their story/ history without mentioning Benin

Now it appears the north and middle belt have also caught the bug and can't write their stories/history without Benin being mentioned.

you have said it all.....it's true that we had Kings in Africa many many years ago.....but the only true king who still defines the meaning of a real traditional ruler and whom his throne have not been defiled with corruption and greediness is the Oba of Benin thats the exact reason everyone is wondering whether he could be dethroned.....because they know how easy it is to dethroned any other king due to the numerous families who can get the throne once they are the highest bidders .....mtcheew
