Nigeria's Coronavirus Index Patient Discharged After Testing Negative by LosC: 1:03am On Mar 21, 2020
The Italian man who arrived Nigeria with the deadly COVID-19 has been discharged after testing negative for the virus.

The Governor of Lagos State Babajide Sanwo-Olu expressed his joy over the goodnews and he equally disclosed this on Friday night via his twitter page:

As the COVID-19 Incident Commander for Lagos, I am glad to inform you that the index case; the Italian gentleman is now negative.

Through a combined effort of Lagos, Ogun State and Fed Health Authorities, we were able to limit the transmission of the virus to a single contact.

This involved aggressive contact tracing and containment strategies. However we now have several new imported cases and we hope we can apply the same contact tracing strategy along with social distancing to slow down the outbreak which may be brewing from these new cases.

The index patient consented to donating one unit of white blood (plasma) before he was discharged today. The blood plasma is rich in antibody proteins that target #COVID19 virus.

The white blood plasma is frozen in our Bio-bank and will be useful in handling new cases.

The blood plasma will be beneficial for the treatment of new patients in the absence of a defined therapeutic drug for #COVID19 yet.

The patient appreciated the exceptional care and support given to him by staff of the infectious Disease Hospital,Yaba and all members of the EOC.
The EOC team was extremely happy to bid the patient farewell.

Once again, we will like to convey the enthusiasm of the team to do the very best possible in handling incidents of #COVID19.

First nation to cure corona keh? Do you guys even think these things through before you type them? Just like most viral infections, treatments can only help with Covid-19 symptoms while you wait for your immune system to fight off the virus. There is no 'cure'. This has been the case with the recovered ex-carriers all over the world. The Italian guy isn't any different. So there is nothing like 'first nation to cure Corona'.

OP, glad you took the correction. Nice one.

Mr Sam, Sometime in life, you will get to a point that you just have to ignore some nuisance you know?
And some people lie to themselves so much that the lies start sounding like the truth to them actually!
Ignoring them is the best way to go.

The world will win this war!

I hope they would have done the same for an African in Italy if the outbreak started in Africa, but I doubt it. These are the same people always making monkey noise and throwing bananas at black football players.

For those of them screaming audio Italian and virus etc. Shey una don see the man, oya make una chop the pic since you've been requesting for it. angry
Sometimes, I wonder what Nigerians want, we always castigate the country and always applaud the western countries, is that not low esteem, when we always look down on ourselves and never appreciate what we have, how do u expect other countries to love us, or do u think praising America and bringing down Nigeria will make them love us?
Without taking anything from the medical team, they have really done well in containing this pandemic so far, more than any America, uk, Germany and the so called developed worlds.
Even those using abroad to boast and our ever traveling darling daddy is stuck here with us, one of those few moments to be proud of Nigeria, I'll cherish it while it lasts.

GOD BLESS NIGERIA!!!
Let’s remember...

In Italy the first three people who had the virus were also cured. Yet yesterday alone 627 Italians died of the disease! That is 627 human beings, dads and mums etc within 24 hours!!

*copied*
On 31 January, the first two Italian cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in Rome. A Chinese couple, originally from Wuhan, who had arrived in Italy on January 23 via Milan Malpensa Airport travelled from the airport to Verona, then to Parma, arriving in Rome on 28 January. The next afternoon, they developed a cough, and by evening the man had a fever.

On 6 February, an Italian repatriated from Wuhan tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the total number of cases in Italy to three.

On 22 February, the repatriated Italian recovered and was discharged from the hospital. On 22 and 26 February, the two previously infected Chinese tourists tested negative for COVID-19 at Lazzaro Spallanzani National Institute in Rome.

They even refused to institute even ordinary mandatory quarantine of people from hot zones - it is a crime against humanity!!!

GOD BLESS NIGERIA
You're right. However, Nigeria doesn't need to Ban anyone. They just need to enforce 14 days quarantine at designated locations around 2 Airports. Make the quarantine services free for Nigerians then charge 10-20k per day for foreign nationals. The charges would include food and other basic daily use.
