From other countries......

Farmers abandoned other crops such as early vegetables to change speculation and invest in avocado or "green gold", a product that has seen an increase in domestic demand with good prospects for export development .

Avocado production has been one of the most successful crops in the past decade. It increased 85.2% between 2008 and 2018. Exports peak at more than 6.4 million tons with growth average annual from the end of the 80s and on an experimental basis," stresses the web page challenge.ma citing the report of the IndexBox (world expert in agricultural trends) published recently.

Robert harvests 20,000 fruits from 27 avocado trees per fruit season. That's about 740 fruits per tree.

There are 2 fruiting seasons per year. That equals 40,000 fruits from 27 trees.

If 15,000 fruit is sold per fruiting at 50/fruit, that's 750k per fruiting & 1.5m per year on just 27 trees.

More facts about avocado

Avocado trees have a long life-span and keep on producing fruit for many decades after reaching maturity. A Hass avocado tree planted in 1926 is still fruiting, and avocado trees growing in the wild in Mexico have been known to live as long as 400 years.

Commercial avocados are typically grafted and begin producing fruit after four or five years. Avocado trees left to grow naturally can start producing fruit in 10 to 15 years. They will continue to produce fruit for more than 50 years. Some trees still producing fruit are thought to be more than 100 years old.

How many fruit will a mature tree produce in one year? It is possible for an avocado tree to produce 200 to 300 fruit per tree once it is about 5-7 years of age. The avocado tree, however, alternates bearing. This means that the tree may produce a large crop one year, and then produce a small crop the following year.

I am Pinfarm, a cash crop farmer & cash crop advocate.

I am also an agroprenure.
I market & fabricate smart farm tools useful everyday on our farms.

But, my real passion is tree or cash crops. The driving reason for this is known by some people who were part of our cocoa group on whatsapp some years back.

My dream is to see all farmers having tree crops as part of their agro investment drive as a hedge against retirement.

Some examples of tree or cash crops we promote are

Cocoa
Oil-palm
Shea
Cashew
Moringa
Coconut
Avocado

Apart from moringa, the other trees crops have lifespan of over 50 years.

Hence, planting any at adult age ensures that one will have something to fall back upon at old age.

Reason we call it farm pension retirement plan

Tree crops is long term & requires personal farmland because it's a lifetime investment.

Our quest has been to secure suitable farmland for any tree crops we want to promote.

We presently have suitable farmland for cocoa in Ogun & Osun State.

Our vision is to see these tree crop farm clusters of farm estates in different locations in Nigeria to cater for different people who might want to plant or invest in trees now but don't have the time to monitor the investment.

As most people who have been with us in this group for some time are aware, the group is about creating a farm pension retirement plan or scheme for all of us by planting tree crops which are sometimes called cash crops. The major reason for this is that, tree crops are the only form of agriculture where you sow /plant once & reap /harvest for many many years. Most cases, outliving the person who planted it.

In essence, we are planting, sowing & planning for the next generation
Re: Avocado Farming In Nigeria: An Untapped Goldmine by Newway2(m): 9:24am On Apr 25, 2020
Most people are also aware that in type of agriculture we promote, land is very very vital. This is because, unlike other aspect of agriculture, where you can do with a few acres, tree crop farming requires hectares of farmland to be worthwhile.

I am very happy to announce that after many years of searching, the good Lord has finally crowned our efforts by giving us a very suitable farmland for our avocado clusters.

This farmland is on a long lease of 50 years. Hence, it is suitable to plant our trees.

Long leases is mostly preferred to outright buying because of easy cost of acquisition. Besides, most communities are also wiser & thinking of the next generation.

Also, it means the host wants meaningful development for their community.

As you are all aware, I am also an advocate of adding value or beneficiation, our CCHub-Cashew & Avocado is a complete cycle agro processing zone.

We farm
We harvest
We process & package for export on the same farm.

Hence, creating more jobs & securing premium for our farm produce.
Re: Avocado Farming In Nigeria: An Untapped Goldmine by Newway2(m): 9:27am On Apr 25, 2020
For the avocado, we have 3 options of selling

1) fresh fruits
2) de-hydrated pulp
3) avocado oil

All are in high demand

By 2024 when harvest from these hubs will be ready, Nigeria shld not be happy exporting raw materials. Hence, need to incorporate processing into our plan abinitio.

May God help us all

Well drained & good loamy soil is the best.

We sell the seedlings for 2500/seedling & not the seed as the seedlings matures faster than the seeds because it is grafted.

Is your 100 x 100 in feet or meters?

Best planting space for avocado is 6m x 6m
