With the spread of the Coronavirus on the increase, misinformation has also taken a toll via several social media platforms thereby raising fear and panic worldwide. This misinformation comes from people creating fake accounts and posing as valid medical professionals, but turn out to be erroneous and in some cases, dangerously bad.
John Hopkins University warned of messages that were being shared on social media platforms that claimed to have an “excellent summary” of COVID-19 but have been labelled “misattributed” by Snopes.

“We have seen rumors and misinformation circulating on social around the coronavirus and have received questions from many of you about these posts, ” John Hopkins medicine said in a statement.

You might as well have heard this false news and shared it with your loved ones out of fear and care. Below are some of the misinformation spreading faster than the virus itself.

1) 5G mobile networks spread COVID-19
This is the most appalling news out there and has lead to so many propaganda about a new world order.

5G mobile networks DO NOT spread COVID-19. Viruses Can not be spread through radio waves/mobile networks.



COVID-19 is spreading in many countries that do not have 5G mobile networks. It is transmitted via respiratory droplets when an infected person coughs, sneezes or speaks. People can also be infected by touching a contaminated surface (such as doorknobs, telephone handles etc.) with their hand and using the same unwashed hands to touch their eyes, mouth and nose with it.

2) Eating Garlic help prevent infection from COVID-19
While garlic is a healthy food that may have some antimicrobial properties, there’s no evidence stating that eating garlic has protected people from COVID-19.



3) Drinking hot water kills COVID-19
They are so many unverified news out there emphasizing on the intake of hot water to kill the virus, while this is not true, taking hot water might burn and scald your tongue, throat, and harm you even before the virus itself do so. Heat does not kill the virus.

4) Smoking kills COVID-19
Smoking is a significant risk factor for many diseases as well as COVID-19. Coronavirus and smoking both affect the lungs thereby increasing the severity of the disease.

One major study, published in the prestigious New England Journal of Medicine, warned that smokers are at higher risk of sever COVID-19.
