No. Definitely not. Freethinkers don't live in tiny ideological boxes and the jehovah witnesses certainly live in such boxes, just like any other people bounded by a certain kind of religious dogma. Ymodulus: |

On the one hand, I imagine that the Jehovah Witnesses would be wary of being described as "freethinkers" in the same sense as the evangelical atheists like to deceive themselves. On the other hand as pointed out recently: frosbel: 1 Like |

Only members of the Governing Body (GB) of Jehovah's Witnesss are allowed to think freely. The remainder (some 7million+) must propagate what is approved by the GB. The above assessment isn't cynical. . |

How can they be tagged as "freethinkers" when they exist in a religious box within a religious box? True freethinkers look to extricate themselves of confines of all ideological/religious boxes. That is where the free part of the term "freethinkers" comes from. |

It is possible - strictly - to be formally one of Jehovah's Witnesses and be freethinking. Being a member of a religion by itself doesn't preclude being a freeethinker. . |

You can't be a freethinker and be part of a religion. If you are a freethinker, then you are not religious in the classical sense of the word. |

Being a member of a church - say - isn't a sufficient condition to conclude that one is religious. One could attend a church every Sunday and still be freethinking. . |

Nimshi: Only members of the Governing Body (GB) of Jehovah's Witnesss are allowed to think freely. This is not true. The Governing Body receives spiritual food(Matthew 24:45-47) from our master the Christ(Matthew 23:10) which they dish out to the congregation. They are not free thinkers. Our master Christ was also not a free thinker (John 5:19 and verse 30). He has left a model for them to follow closely (1 Peter 2:21) |

Freethinkers are free to take their thoughts wherever they wish. They see the world from a much broader perspective than being in a religion could ever give them. This does not apply to JWs. |
