there are different kind of wood available in the market, each of the boards are made using different materials which makes each of them have their own set of distinctive property and application.

PLYWOOD: plywood is made by gluing the thin sheet of
wood layers at high pressure, so it has more strength compare to other BOARDS.

MDF FIBRE BOARDS: the production process involves grinding of wood chips into Fibres and binding them with synthetic resin under heat and pressure. it has a density of 600-800kg/m3


HDF FIBREBOARDS: This is a high density fibre boards made by compressing wood fibre mechanically with density higher than 800kg/m3. It is preferred for furnitures where heavy traffic is expected, and highly resistant to moisture.

PARTICLE BOARDS: this is the weakest of all the boards,it is also manufactured from wood chip, compressed with synthetic resin as binder to make boards. it is usually used for making light Weight furnitures placed in areas where there is minimum contact with water.

BLOCK BOARDS: Block Boards is a compound plywood where softwood stripes are joined edge to edge and bonded together. it is the most preferred choice when long piece of wood is required as it is stiffer and does not sag or bend like plywood.

these days, MDF and HDF has become the most popular wood type for FURNITURE WORKS


Advantages of MDF


a) Easy workability as it can be cut out easily

b) it is cheaper to HDF

C) it can be moulded to any shape

d) it has a smooth surface finishing

Disadvantages of MDF

a) low resistant to moisture

b) it can not be used where heavy load is expected to be borned by the board.

C) it has low holding strength for nail/screw


Advantages of HDF

a) it has a smooth surface finishing

b) high resistant to moisture

C) it can be used to carry heavier loads than MDF

d) it's nail / screw holding strength is better than MDF

e) it's density is higher

Disadvantages

a) it is expensive

b) its workability is not as easy as that of MDF.

sub-frame:

sub- frame is in evitable if you are to use BOARD (hdf or mdf)for your door frame and architraves...this type does not require any painting for finishing.

Hardwood door frame:

it takes the size of the mansory block used for the building, either 150mm, 225mm etc.....using hardwood for the Door frame will require finishing with paint or natural wood finish polish.
