Quite a number of people want to invest in livestock business because that is the future of our economy. But the fact remain that the knowledge of this sector is very limited. Most players depend on "the way we have been doing it" in a highly dynamic world. If you want to venture into this sector, there are questions you need ask and understand clearly before deploying resources.
1, Investment type (long or short term).
2, Activities (Product/services)
3, Market (Target Buyers)
4, Feasibility.
Once you have a clue of all these question, you can then start, then other questions will arise. For instance, some livestock businesses are more profitable at a scale of production than anything lower. Also, there are technicalities involved right from your siting, layout, construction and day to day running of a livestock venture. In a simple language, you wont understand why some feed are mash, pellets or crumbs and the best way to deploy them for your profitability.

A simple mistake in any of the above summarized steps will lead to patching up in a multi million projects, i have seen these unfortunate situations on many farm across the country in my experience as a veterinarian. From direct sun into pen houses, poor waste management (bore hole contarmination), lack of biosecurity and future expansion plan.

The risk in livestock is not more than that of other ventures, unless the right things are left undone.
