Oranmiyan a grandson of Oduduwa was made oba of Benin by the oracle in Benin. This history is in the Ifa corpus under odi meji. He returned to Ile Ife after renaming Igodomigodo to Ife Ibinu and leaving his son Owonika by a Benin woman to be Oba. He arrived Ile Ife and later raised an army for the purpose of avenging the expulsion of Oduduwa from where he came from. He raised the army and faced north and not Benin direction. He reached the river Niger and was prevented from crossing the river Niger by the Bariba. His expedition was thus cut short. He settled there instead of returning to Ile Ife and married the daughter of the Nupe king. This was the foundation of Oyo. Oranmiyan was the first Alaafin of Oyo as well as the first Oba of Benin. The purpose of this write up is to show that if Oduduwa had come from Benin, Oranmiyan would have faced Benin with his army but he faced north, the direction of mecca though, his expedition was unsuccessful, it led to the foundation of Oyo.
