By all means, do your business blogging by yourself…after all, you know better about your industry.

And you’re funny, witty, and persuasive.

But sadly, you can’t joggle writing with other business activities.

So like many small business owners in Nigeria today, you need to hire a writer for business blogging.

So that while you focus on sales, the writer can create quality content for your blog. Then help you attract more ‘followers-turned-customers.’

But how do you hire the right blogger in Nigeria? What can you do to get the best person to write for you?

Many business owners complain about the low-quality content that they get from so-called professional writers.

Some of the contents are tiresome, shallow, or outrightly irrelevant. And they end up in the recycle bin – somewhere in the computer system.

I have heard business owners confess that the writers they got earlier wrote articles that didn’t even meet up to standard.

So, if you want to avoid such wack writers, do the following:

1. Check for writing skills

The first thing you need to do is to confirm that whoever is writing your content is good.

Wrong sentence construction, bad syntax, and other anomalies could turn off a potential customer.

Nobody likes to associate with a cheapskate.
If you publish poorly written articles, your business will appear cheap.

Also, your contents must have good deliveries. They must be exciting and contain call-to-action to help you convert a follower into a paying customer.

Activities for confirming a writer’s writing skills:

- Ask for the writer’s best article

- See if the articles are compelling, persuasive, etc.

2. Confirm writer’s knowledge about your industry

A common problem when hiring a Nigerian writer is that everybody will try to convince you that they’re the best.

Even when they lack the experience to write for your specific industry.

A writer must be able to research any topic and come up with quality content. But this is not always true for every industry.

Sometimes, a writer must have worked with someone in a particular field before they can write well about the industry.

The experience will help the writer create content that will showcase your company as an industry expert and improve sales.

Activities for confirming a writer’s knowledge about your industry:

- Test the writer’s existing knowledge about your field through a discussion

- Request for articles that are relevant to your industry

It pays to engage a writer with excellent SEO skills as well.

Your company website will enjoy visibility, and you won't have to come up with article topics yourself. A good writer must be able to generate relevant and SEO-friendly blog posts.
