“INSTITUTE OF MARITIME AND SAFETY, NIGERIA“ is an autonomous professional Body established in 2009 “To promote the art of Maritime Logistics Safety, Security and Environmental protection in Nigeria. The institute is unique as it covers broad aspects of the industry (Port, Merchant, Naval, Maritime Safety and Security, Customs, Shipping, Marine Environmental protection, Fisheries and Logistics).

The institute activities are fashioned-out to promote the Nations objectives of Maritime education and enhance professionalism by conducting researches, seminars and training in Line with the international practices. The governing board consists of seasoned Mariners and Maritime Scholars.
Objectives of the Institute are:-

1. To carry out research, provide consultancy, courses of instruction and learning in the area of Maritime management.
2. To encourage, promote, and conduct research in the field of Maritime Operations, Safety and security based on all International conventions which Nigeria is party to
3. To conduct professional examinations and award of certificates to its members, and Maritime practitioners in the area of maritime management.
4. To enhance the training and performance of Maritime personnel in the country by organizing seminars; conferences and publication of Maritime developments around the world.
5. To serve as Maritime Professional body in Nigeria.
