*_About 19 Months after Moni Pulo firm finished oil exploration and left Uruan, promising to return for production if interpretation of seismic studies showed there was oil in commercial quantity in the area, there is a mixed bag of anxiety, pessimism, anger and optimism in Uruan_*



*When Moni Pulo Petroleum Development Company Limited, an indigenous oil exploration and production firm, explored oil in Uruan Local Government Area (LGA) for about six months in 2018, there were high hopes among the people that their land would soon join the big league of oil-producing areas in Akwa Ibom State. The people longed for the black gold.*



*Nineteen months after the company left the oil wells with a promise to return for oil production if interpretation of seismic studies on the wells indicated there was oil in commercial quantity in Uruan, not many people are that hopeful anymore. If anything, hope has largely been replaced with anxiety, pessimism and anger. There are even some, palpably giving up on Moni Pulo, who are calling on the company to make way for a “more serious” company.*
