Please I have a toyota RAV4 2003 with this same problems and i took it for diagnostic check and it gave P0750- shift solenoid b as the problem. Then mechanic said the oil smells burnt that we should change the whole gear. So i went on net to find out about the problem and I discovered this ECM/ECU issue but dont know how to get the ECM to the repairer in US and I have been longing to find a shop in Nigeria that could do the repair. just buy an updated ecm in the tsb from Toyota I attached in my earlier post...confirm the correct serial nos of the ecm to buy....buy the ecm and change ur gearbox fluid to original fluid...pls not abro or seahorse....and ur car shud be back to life...

stop driving the car to prevent further/serious damage to ur gearbox...........so as to reduce what u wud hv to buy.

try elizade/kojo motors etc for the ecm...or if u hv contacts in the usa...you can buy from ebay.

The following are quotes from a write up by a repairer in the US. How does one guard against the likely issues that may arise from buying another ECM to use in my car

"So, about testing the computer, as you may already know, most of these vehicles came with a security system called immobilizer. This system will not allow you to run your RAV4 vehicle with other than your keys, which have a security chip integrated in the black plastic handle of each key. A code for running your vehicle is programmed inside that chip on the key, as well as in the ecm computer. Both codes must match after a security algorithm is automatically run by the system as soon as you insert any of your keys in the keylock cylinder.
To actually test your ecm computer after been repaired, it must be installed in a test vehicle. In order to run the engine for the tests on the test vehicle, the ecm under test must be prepared with the test vehicle codes. Otherwise it will not run. If it does not run, no test can be done. As simple as that.
Not to mention that if the ecm is successfully programmed to do the test, it must be programmed back to the codes it had before. Otherwise, the ecm will be repaired and tested, but will not run on the owner’s RAV4, because now it has a different immobilizer code."

"After your ecm is checked and repaired, it will be prepared with the test vehicle immobilizer code and returned to your vehicle’s code after the test is done. It is achieved by removing the owner’s immobilizer eeprom chip from the ecu circuit and installing ours for testing. After the test is done, the original eeprom is reinstalled. This means, no programming will be needed as soon as you receive your repaired ecm computer. Just plug it and you are ready to drive it."

I know someone that will be in the US later this month, do you have any trusted vendor/repairer that i could send my ecm to for repairs or that I could by updated one from though this will require eeprom chip to be installed on the updated ecu to avoid immobiliser issues

if you are sending ur ecm to the usa.......a good installer normally erases/reflashes the eeprom so that its just plug n play when the ecm comes back........that's the standard procedure
@ my contact in usa that I used then also did this...I never had any problem with the ecms...as it was plug n play...the immobilizer quickly recognized it..and no issues whatsoever......

unless you give the ecm to a learner/incompetent techic..that's when this immobilizer/ecm issue will arise..

the write up u posted while being correct in some way wasn't an issue to me or any of my clients...when I was installing refurbished ecm for my clients....

Thanks for allowing God to use you as a tool! You fixed my Rav4 2003 model and the car has been functioning optimally. I recommend Engr Bob for your Rav4 ECM, Hard shift and or gear box problem. He can do it any day any time. He fixed mine in Abuja.

All vehicle has their their own peculiar problem for you to solve most of the problem your ecm need to be updated to the latest firmware from the manufacturer I do that using specialised software you can call me on 08077983808

Not all Rav4 10/03 transmission issues are from the PCM. There are laid down procedures in determining this, though your complaint is looking like it is the PCM!
