Information shared on 9News Nigeria platform has revealed that Police in Togo has discovered 2,000 human bodies dried like stock fish and another 500 bodies that were allegedly buried alive in shallow graves after raiding Togolese Voodoo witchdoctor’s shrine.

It was gathered that the voodoo witchdoctor has been practicing the act of human rituals for many years resulting to killing and sacrificing of over 5,000 victims in the name of “Money rituals”

According to further details contained in the information, The voodoo witchdoctor from Togo have been patronised by Nigerians especially the Yorubas and others who troupe to his shrine for money rituals.

Police also discovered thousands of skeletons in the witchdoctor’s compound all used for money rituals.

The witchdoctor was working with over 30 servants who were assisting him in the human sacrifices, rituals and disposal of the victims’ bodies as the case may be. Some of the victims’ bodies were dried like stock fish and left in the compound while other decomposing bodies were recovered from shallow graves and some thrown in certain places in the compound of the witchdoctor.

Togolese police got a tip off about the dodgy dealings of the witch doctor and after investigations, raided the compound and apprehended the witchdoctor and his accomplices after making the shocking discoveries.

It was also learnt that over 5,000 patrons mainly Nigerians, Togolese, Beninise and other nationalities were in queue waiting for their turn to get the Money Ritual sacrifice from the voodoo witchdoctor. These people have already paid in money to secure human bodies for their money rituals before police raided the compound.

In Europe people with albinism are often barely noticeable. In Africa stories have grown up over hundreds of years around people with albinism that attribute supernatural powers to them. 

In Tanzania, they are described as zeru-zeru, immortal spirits.

'That's why they kill us,' said Miriamu softly. 'They believe that our body parts and organs will make them rich and happy.'

In October 2008, the men with the machetes came to take Miriamu's arms.

Back then the 25-year-old corn farmer who just read her young sisters a bedtime story when she heard a loud crack. Then a large stone smashed through the door of her clay hut. Four masked men stormed in, blinding Miriamu with flashlights. One yanked her arm up, another chopped below the shoulder with a machete.

'His blade was dull. He hacked and he hacked,' recalled Miriamu breathlessly, as if it were happening again.

'Blood — blood everywhere. There was a jerk, my arm tore off. 

'That's when I felt the burning. That's when I screamed in pain.' 

Miriamu's sisters had run out of the hut, her parents were locked in the next room. The young woman was still fully conscious as the attackers started on the second arm.

It is only at the sound of the neighbours shouting outside that they finally stopped and ran off with their prize. 

The other arm could not be saved and was amputated later in the hospital.

In East Africa people like Miriamu fear for their lives. Since the first documented murder of an albino in Tanzania in 2006, the old beliefs in the occult have undergone a terrible transformation. 

Where once the hair, fingernails and urine of albinos were enough, now unscrupulous witchdoctors produce their talismans and magic potions from the arms, legs, bones, inner organs and genitals of albinos.

Things have escalated to such an extent that children have even been snatched from their mother's arms by evil traffickers.

In Ndamhi, tears ran down Sophia Juma face as she recalled every parent's worst nightmare when her four-year-old daughter Pendo Emanuelle was taken from her as she gave  her a cuddle.

'What happens if the men come back?' she whimpered, holding her hand over the baby's head. She only has a simple lock on her door. She does not trust her neighbours. There is no police protection. And there is absolutely no trace of her four-year-old daughter. 

 'Maybe they'll use the girl as a living stockpile,' Sophia's friend Josephat Torner friend suggested, as tears rolled down his cheeks. 'Whenever they need new supplies, they'll cut a piece off of her.'

The persecution of the Pygmy peoples in contemporary times is both shocking and devastating; a savage attack that is demonstrated most horrifyingly in the reports that rebels are massacring and eating pygmies in the dense forests of north-east Congo. Many of the displaced by the violence tell of rebel fighters capturing and butchering pygmies.[1]

Sudi Alimasi, an official of the pro-government group Rally for Congolese Democracy-ML, said it had begun receiving reports of cannibalism from people displaced by fighting.

"We hear reports of commanders feeding on sexual organs of pygmies, apparently believing this would give them strength," he said. "We also have reports of pygmies being forced to feed on the cooked remains of their colleagues."

“Cannibalism has re-emerged throughout eastern Congo as the last vestiges of colonial influence have been eroded during the war. Much of the vast forested area is controlled by the Mayi-Mayi, a loose grouping of tribal militias united by their magical beliefs and taste for human flesh.”[2]

The Bambuti

On Idjwi, the largest island in Democratic Republic of Congo, a way of life is dying. The Bambuti, one of several Pygmy groups in Congo, are among central Africa's oldest indigenous peoples. 

For millennia, they have lived as hunter-gatherers, surviving off the forest's bounty of plants, birds and monkeys.

Idjwi, in the middle of Lake Kivu, has been spared the ravages of wars in eastern Congo that have killed millions of people since 1996, mostly from hunger and disease.

The Bambutis, like Pygmy groups across central Africa, have been pushed out of a native land to which they could assert no legal title - in this case, to make way for an exploding ethnic Bantu population who now make up more than 95 percent of Idjwi's 280,000 inhabitants.

Around 1980, the Bambuti say, local authorities and customary chiefs from the Bahavu, a Bantu people, expelled them from the forests and turned the land over to Bahavu to farm and build houses.

The Bambuti lost their livelihood and, with few if any assets, no education, and no experience of how to support themselves in an alien environment, their society has withered.

"We are no more than 7,000 on the island, relocated on uncultivable land and scattered on the coast in makeshift camps on the fringe of villages, in total destitution," said Charles Livingstone, the chief of Idjwi's Pygmies.

Ijdwi's local customary authorities say that the Bambutis sold their land, and Muley said South Kivu was "a province where there are a lot of land issues, land disputes everywhere, so you are told that ... nothing can be done".

Gervais Rubenga Ntawenderundi, the Bantu customary chief in the north of the island where the Bambuti live, said there were "no problems on the island between the two ethnic groups":

"The pygmies have never been driven out of the forest and have always lived near the villages in this way."

Other Bantu argue that entrenched discrimination against Pygmies is a legacy of colonial rule.

At national level, Congo's parliament first discussed a law to protect Pygmy rights in 2007, but it has yet to vote on a bill.

Thus the Bambuti scrape a living clearing fields or carrying heavy loads for Bahavu landowners, who often treat them with contempt.

At the Kagorwa camp, where close to 300 Pygmies were resettled from their ancestral Nyamusisi forest, crops will not grow on the land, and many of the children are gaunt and undernourished from a diet of "sombe": simple cassava leaves boiled in water, without salt or oil.[6]"This is the only food we have in sufficient quantity…There are no more birds, no snakes, no monkeys."[7]
