IgbereTV reports that the Oyo state government has said that its SS3 students will sit for WAEC Exams. It stated that the FG's directive on 2020 WAEC should be for unity schools.

The state commissioner of education, Olasunkanmi Olaleye, said the SS3 students in the state are in schools preparing for WAEC. The minister of education, Adamu Adamu, had on Wednesday, July 8, suspended the 2020 WAEC indefinitely, stating that the secondary school students preparing for their final examinations would not be able to return to school any time soon because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Speaking with journalists in his office, on Thursday, July 9, on the latest federal government’s position, Olaleye said that the state was also watching out for the reaction of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to the development. While acknowledging that WASSCE was a critical part of education for all students in the state, Olaleye pointed out that the state would make its position known based on its assessment of the prevailing situation. While stating that the federal government’s directive was specifically for its schools, Olaleye said the state’s schools remained open in compliance with COVID-19 protocols.

Olaleye said, “I listened to the federal minister of education and he was emphatic about FG schools. We have resumed in Oyo state and you must have seen the level of compliance to COVID-19 protocols by our schools."

“If you go to our schools, you will see that our senior students are still learning and the preparation for WAEC is ongoing. The examination is part of educational development. So the state government will assess the situation especially because of the fact that WAEC is an integral part of educational development hence it cannot be ignored. “WAEC is a regional examination that involves five countries so we are waiting for the reaction of WAEC. The state government will then assess the situation."

Better governor, pls allow primary 6 and jss 3 to write theirs too. I dont knw how a sensible governor or minister will say that pupils in these class should wait till next year to write their exam because of corona, Other countries have moved on with their life with the right preventive measures in place. Students in the mentioned class resumed schooling in serria leone on July1 not to even talk of other foreign countries. Dey there make pant dey wear una. Wait till Edo and Ondo election periods the government's choice will shock you all. You really think they care for you You'll all learn but in a hard way and also it will be too late then

My son is in primary 5 in a private school in Ibadan and he has been going to school since Monday. There are 9 pupils im each class, the teacher makes the 10th and they have water, sanitizers and all put in place. However, this is a private school, what happens in the public schools in the state? The unfortunate thing I that there's no single covid19 preventive measure put in place in the town itself. A small napep still carries 3 at the back, driver and one person in front, with no masks! Market women in Ibadan don't even bother wearing masks on their jaws like they at least do in other places

I tot Lagos will be the first to open up schools while other States copy but sanwo olu bowed to his lazy over fed public school teachers protest.

Who is alive and healthy would write or conduct exams.

If reopening schools go south, can those agitating for reopening bring back lives, can they even fund the healthcare bills of those that may be affected?

So when do you think the pandemic will stop? By next year? So even if it takes 5 years to control it the children should stay 'safe' at home. We have to move on with our lives, Corona is not going away any time soon
