The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has threatened to resume their suspended strike action on Monday, September 7, 2020 by 8am if the Federal Government of Nigeria fails to address their demands.

The resident doctors issued the strike threat in a communique released after its virtual National Executive Council meeting of the NARD held on 2nd of September 2020, to review the 21-day ultimatum issued to government which elapsed 17th of August 2020.

Some of the demands of the doctors include:

– Provision of genuine Group life insurance and death in service benefits for all health workers.

– Immediate payment of the Medical Residency Training funding to all her members as approved in the revised 2020 budget

– Payment of the outstanding April/May and June COVID-19 inducement allowance.

– Determination of the revised hazard allowance for all health workers as agreed in previous meetings with relevant stakeholders.

– Immediate payment of the salary shortfalls of 2014, 2015 and 2016.

Address the needs of unions like ASUU, Resident Doctors, COEASSU, they would not.

Implement an increase in VAT charges, fuel pump price, electricity tarrif, DSTV subscription and they would hurriedly get it done.

So much for a change we wanted.

Some people will come here now to vent their frustrations on the innocent ARD instead of the polithiefcians who are implementing killer policies. If they can approve over 100% increase in electricity tariff and an unreasonable increase in PMS pump price, I don't see why the Resident Doctors shouldn't demand for better working conditions. Let the strike hold, bi ko undecided
