JA JA KING OF THE OPOBO (1821-1891) He was the founder and leader of the territory of Opobo an area near the Eastern Nigeria River. This area was very favorable to trading. This trading route soon attracted the greedy Europeans who seek to capture this trading route. Ja Ja put up fierce resistance to this outside intervention. This resistance lasted for many years until at an older age of 70 he was finally captured by the British and sent into exile to the West Indies. The greatest Ibo leader of the nineteenth century never saw his kingdom again. Arguably he is one of the greatest kings in Africa yo comment please , any one in know pse furnish me with details of what happened to him when he was sent to west indies ? |

Two years late but, yeah I think he was sent to St. Vincent, or was it St. Lucia, and he was given a massive welcome by the black community as they knew an African king was coming, which the British weren't very happy about. He died on the ship on his way back to 'Nigeria'. |

King Jaja's lineage still rule Opobo kingdom till date. The current king was in Owerri last January to celebrate Ahiajoku festival. During the occasion, he said how glad he was sitting with his Igbo kits and kin. Igbo language is well spoken in Opobo. |

I think she initially came here as a teacher or missionary. I also think she was from New York. |
