Question: "Mist, I do not really understand the system of morality of Humilism; the Creed prescribes different things in different subchapts for conduct. For example, Chapter 3a: 16 asks one to look away when a person wants to commit suicide, while Chapter 3b:16 asks one to intervene and help them overcome the challenge that makes them want to commit suicide. Is there a contradiction in the Creed?"

Answer:
The Creed of Humilism doesn't contradict itself on this or in any matters of ethics and morality. The two verses above are in fact talking to different people; Morality in Humilism is not the same for everyone. Basically, there are two kinds of Laws in the Creed: the Laws for the Free and the Laws for the Maker. (A person is a maker if they make a child into the present world). Morality therefore hinges partly on natal status (or natal intentions) to reflect the fundamental difference between one who makes others and one who deliberately withhold from making others - they are not equally responsible.

The Laws for the Free demands that a person acts entirely from their personal conscience (the admonition to look away when a person wants to take their life will be explained in another piece). Such person is not under obligation to obey local laws, and should act in accordance with their conscience, putting themselves in the shoes of the others and having self-destroying empathy if they will. For example, it is not wrong for a free person (one who doesn't create others) to allow themselves die when resources get thin so that they leave available resources for others.

The Laws for the Makers on the other hand almost uphold social/societal conscience above personal conscience and legality is clearly placed above personal convictions. The Laws of the Society is effectively the moral guide prescribed by Humilism for the one who makes others. Such person is under obligation to obey local laws except they are in the process of changing it. They are expected to work for the greatness of society and the best they can aspire to is the state of a good citizen. This is so so that a maker pays attention to the society they are bringing new souls into, keep active interests in the laws and culture, participates to bring about changes they desires, etc. since it is the world they are bringing/have brought an innocent child/human into. The Laws for the Makers seeks to achieve three things: (1) to make the maker available for the child they made, (2) to make the maker work for the good of the society, and (3) to make the maker work on the child for the good of the society. A maker cannot allow themselves to dies when resources get thin; they cannot look away when a person wants to commit suicide, etc. Dutifulness (responsibility) is the righteousness of a maker.

The Creed goes ahead to ask each kind of person to respect their status; a free person is strongly advised not to aspire to high public offices, not because they cannot perform well, but because society is better built by those whose generations will inherit it. Free persons are however able to hold religious offices of any height. The free person has no stake and can easily mess up. The maker is strongly forbidden from locking themselves away from the problems of their societies; even the highest spiritual attainment is a sin for the maker who fails to perform the duties of a citizen. They can however pursue a spiritual/private life as long as they perform public and parental duties.

Good is not the same for everyone; for those who create the next generation, the good/greatness of their society is their goal, while for those who do not, clean conscience is their goal. The Creed will guide you better. This is Humilism.

Judgement of Right and wrong is based on the conscience. But conscience also can be polluted or influenced. And loses its purity and neutrality. A universal law is required . The word of God is the answer.

Hebrews 4:12
For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart

It is the same.

The simplest test is to reverse and redirect the judgment upon the person who gives that Judgment.

See, what happens when the judgment he gave is about to be applied to him, see whether he would want it applied.

If the Judgment was Right, he would want it applied. When it is wrong, he rejects it.

And if he rejects his own judgment, then his Judgment is not true and cannot be relied upon.
