kannymoore: Jimi Solanke also had a show on LTV 8 in the 1980s (before he moved over to the NTA). It used to be shown on Saturday mornings. Unfortunately I can't remember the title of the show. |

naptu2: LTV channel 8 My daddy's telly could never catch their signal clearly!!! Always too much "shhhhhh" and static and the channel seemed more grayscale than colored. Lol! Though, I tried not to miss captain-caveman, captain planet and ninja turtles whenever I could sha. I won't lie... LTV channel 8 and NTA channel 7 were a perfect No-NO for me. Maybe it was the proliferation of Yoruba programmes on both channels...I dunno. Lol. But damn.. those were some good times.. for real! Meanwhile... its an honor to finally chat with you one-on-one on Nairaland. I'm a very great fan of your threads and your Diary and follow them as religiously as I can. You truly are a PERFECT example of an ENIGMA and I sincerely hope to meet you someday just to shake your hand in deep respect. You sir.. are THA DON! 2 Likes 1 Share |

naptu2:^^^^^ ^^^^^ Hello @Naptu2 Where is Lola Fani-Kayode [Nigeria's FIRST female TV soap opera producer of "Mirror in the Sun," and the very professionally produced TV classic "Mind Bending" featuring Joke Silva] right now? I wonder what she is doing since I'm aware she is NOT dead yet! I Read today as well that she got married to an actor by the name Wale Macaulay a couple of years back. I have been having occasional recalls of her and decided to use the internet today to find out and your post on NL popped up. I think her excellent production - "Mind Bending" which ran in the late 1980s should be shown on TV again. I loved the production because of the crystal-clear quality and the awesome story line... Shockingly, this is what I found in her Wikipedia entry. It is a very, very short. I was expecting something more robust than this in her entry! ==>https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lola_Fani-Kayode I also found this family lineage information on her cousin's Website [Femi Fani-Kayode's Website] below: ==>http://www.femifanikayode.org/lineage/ P.S: Also found this info online: Lola Fani Kayode, writer of Mirror in the Sun, a Nigerian soap opera, and Amaka Igwe, late movie producer and director, were profiled in 'Ladies Calling the Shots', a book on female film directors in Nigeria. The book, written by Niran Adedokun, a Lagos based lawyer and writer, will be launched on November 13 in Lagos, at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs, on Victoria Island. Source: https://www.thisdaylive.com/index.php/2018/09/21/female-talents-are-still-calling-the-shots/ P.P.S: Mabel Akomu Oboh is also the SECOND female producer in Nigeria after Lola Fani-Kayode who did Mirror in the Sun. Victims later took over from Mirror in the Sun in the ‘80s. Source: http://sunnewsonline.com/men-were-my-greatest-headache-as-broadcaster/ |

Konquest: I think she's in the UK. She was involved in a programme that aired on BBC World Service Radio in the mid 2000s and I think she now works with the BBC. 1 Like 2 Shares |

naptu2:^^^^ ^^^^ OK ... thanks for the update. I re-edited my original post to you so you may wish to read it again. I included in the P.P.S. SECTION, the info on Mabel Akomu Oboh the 2nd female TV producer after Lola Fani-Kayode who was the first. I wonder why she doesn't communicate with the Nigerian media and public anymore. If she doesn't do that often, the NEXT generation of Nigerians who don't know much about her might start thinking that Amaka Igwe is the first female producer - people have a penchant for mangling history in Nigeria because of lack of proper documentation. A classic example is the FALSE notion that home video films started in Nigeria in 1992 with 'living in bondage'... but it was in 1988 that the home videos started in the Yoruba movie industry. Kenneth Nnebue [who in 1992 produced the Ibo language home video 'living in bondage'] confirmed in a 1997 "This Day" newspaper article [that I have in my personal library] that it was the Yoruba segment of the Nigerian movie industry that started the cinema and home video film industry. He also said in that 1997 interview that he understudied the Yoruba home video sector/Indian movies and mentioned up to 20 home videos in Yoruba language that were subtitled in English language! "The first film produced on video in Nigeria was 1988's Soso Meji, produced by Ade Ajiboye. The film was also screened at the few available theatres at the time. Subsequently, Alade Aromire produced Ekun (1989) on video, which was screened at the National Theatre, Iganmu." SOURCE: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cinema_of_Nigeria Thanks again for your kind input. I'll do some more research on Lola Fani-Kayode and the UK angle. All the best! |

Konquest: You might also be interested in this. Ireti Doyle says that Joke Silva's performance in Mind Bending inspired her to want to be an actress. Then, there was Mind Bending, a TV series produced by Lola Fani Kayode, which starred Joke Silva at the time. There was a particular scene where ‘Aunty J’ took me through an emotional journey. I looked on so steadily at her, as she tugged at all my emotions. After that scene, I knew that was what I wanted to do. It may sound weird, but it was a light bulb moment for me. http://sunnewsonline.com/i-spent-15-years-learning-the-art-of-acting-ireti-doyle/ |

rapmike:My God! Battle of the Planets was one of my faves back then. I recall we didnt even have a color TV but I was just a kid and couldn't be bothered about that. "and watching over them from stellar Neptune, 7 Zack 7. Watching, warning against prime attacks by alien galaxies"! I liked Terror Hawks too but Zelda was scary. Sesame street Voltron Moonlighting - where I first fell in love with Bruce Willis Robin Hood of Sherwood - very cute actor! Superforce with Ken Olandi or something like that Oh to be a child again! |
