It’s that time of the year, where the powerful are at the mercy of the masses, and tables are turned. Worthy of note is that the electoral process of Nigeria and the United States have striking similarities. The gamble begins when the electoral college which consists of electors cast their vote for the person who has majority votes in their states. A similar narrative is that of the Nigerian primaries where party members vote a candidate at the primary election as their party representative at the general election.

Just like in Nigeria, where we have majorly two parties- APC and PDP, the United States also have a similar setting- Democrat and Republican. The die is cast, who takes on the wheel of power, Joe Biden or the controversial Donald Trump?

In the electoral college system, there is the probability that the winner of the popular vote might not get elected as the president, as was seen in the 2016 Presidential elections where Hillary Clinton won the popular votes but lost at the electoral college. The gamble continues as we await the final declaration of the one who hits jackpot.
