Adelani Adepegba, Abuja

The Academic Staff Union of Universities has agreed to call of its eight-month strike which has grounded academic activities in the public universities.

The union leadership reached the consensus during a meeting with the government team led by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, in Abuja, on Friday.

The government also pledged to increase the total payment to the union to N70 billion.
This is happening one week after the Federal Government accepted the demand by the ASUU that they be exempted from the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System.

They should wait for all the agreement to be completely concertized before calling off the strike.
The Federal government is a very irresponsible government.
They give more money and attention to frivolities and self rewarding of themselves with the latest Prado and Lexus jeeps.
They pay Boko Haram repentees and reward mediocrity against meritocracy on daily basis.
Nobody should pity them.

This should be a great relief. Nigerian students have suffered enough.

This news is incomplete, I don't understand the rush to publish an incomplete news by Punch.

ASUU only agreed to call-off the strike after FG complies/implements their demands within the time frame they gave FG.

This kind of lazy journalism is very disappointing

Will you blame them grin. I mean after how many meetings and ending the strike is finally a contentious topic, who wouldn't run with the news even if it's half.

Most of the students are doing already in labour market. Some are even business men - selling and buying.

The strike has been a blessing in disguise
