The family of Sulaimon Olufemi who has been on death row for 18 years in Saudi Arabia over a mob action that resulted in the killing of a police officer is pleading for clemency, Igbere TV reports.

Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission Abike Dabiri-Erewa said that the Nigerian government is on the case of the man.

She told the family who paid the commission a visit on Wednesday in Lagos that NiDCOM was working with the Nigerian mission in Saudi Arabia, adding that the Minister of Foreign Affairs Geoffery Onyeama has been in touch with Saudi authorities on the case.

According to Mrs Dabiri-Erewa, all others arrested over the incident have been released except the Nigerian.

Chairman, House Committee on Diaspora Tolulope Sadipe is also involved in the case.

Olufemi’s freedom is dependent on the daughter of the police officer who was killed when she was two years old. She is now 20.

“The family of Suleiman Obafemi , who has been on death row in Saudi for 18years , visited ⁦
@nidcom_gov⁩ Lagos office today to plead for clemency for him.

“Suleman was sentenced to death 18 years ago .accused of being part of a mob action that killed a Saudi Police Officer.

“Whether he lives or dies now will be determined by the slain officer’s daughter who was 2 years old then , but now 20, and will decide to forgive or not.

“Minister Onyeama, the Nigerian mission in Saudi as well as some members of the diaspora community in Saudi and @ToluSadipe have been on the case . 11 people arrested, all released , only him on death row . If only he hadn’t been encouraged to be part of the mob. But we will do al we can , if only for the sake of the aged parents and family who wept uncontrollably today.”

Let them tender justice with mercy. But we must start to realise that some things tolerated back home are met with the full wrath of the law in some other countries. No be all society be animal kingdom like our own.

Arrrrrrrh

So his judgment is tight around a girl who knows nothing about her Dad despite of the fatal coincident?

My problem is not the little girl giving her own verdict but the wicked family members spuring her, polluting her mind to say what they have been planning to do i.e killing him.

That country killing is a common thing ! I pray God vindicate him, cause Nigeria can't do anything, this Saudi Arabia not Uganda !

18 years and his family, (not friends) are still pleading, crying and seeking help on his behalf.

This new year please learn who to prioritize in your life.

If was a gf or bf the person would've moved on after a year or two.

If it was a husband, he would have moved on in months. A wife who has kids for you could still be hanging in there waiting but if it was a new marriage without kids, she'd have left since.

You see parents, parents will never give up on you no matter what so please whatever you do in this life, never place anyone above your parents.

Know this and know peace.

embarassed what I don't understand is, he was arrested together with 11 suspects for killing a police officer in a mod attack but the Saudi police release all the 11 suspects and place only him on death row. to me this is injustice and I hope the slain police officer's daughter will forgive him to escape that death sentence

You shouldn't be so quick to jump into conclusion. If the Saudi Arabian government had been eager to execute him, they would have done so long time ago. I wonder how complicit he's in the death of the police officer which deprived the young woman the chance of enjoying her father. How can a black man in Saudi be the one among others to be the prime culprit in the murder of a policeman? Like it was stated, his own life is now literally in her hands. I wonder how people will approach the daughter for forgiveness.

I pray he gets released.
It's a lesson though, a foreigner will always remain a second class citizen. Why join mob action in another man's land?
