A few days ago, billions of WhatsApp user around the world received a controversial notification stating that by February 18 2021, it users must accept the new Privacy Policy or risk losing access to their WhatsApp accounts.

“By tapping Agree, you accept the new terms, which take effect on February 8, 2021,” the notification states.“After this date, you’ll need to accept the new terms to continue using WhatsApp. You can also visit the Help Center if you would prefer to delete your account."

This new terms will require the collection of data such as phone number, battery level, browser information, signal strength, mobile network, app version, connection information, language and time zone, IP address, device operations information and many more.

According to a WhatsApp spokesperson, this comes as part of the disclosed move to allow all business to store and manage WhatsApp chats and information using Facebook's infrastructure. This policy means that deleting your app will not prevent WhatsApp from retaining a user’s private data.

They also state that “When you delete your account, it does not affect your information related to the groups you created or the information other users have relating to you, such as their copy of the messages you sent them.”

What are the Alternatives?
This move has caused huge controversy, leading users to leave WhatsApp and find a new alternative like Telegram and Signal.

Telsa and SpaceX founder Elon Musk also told users on Twitter to switch to Signal, a cross-platform encrypted messaging service developed by the Signal Foundation. Signal was co-founded by Brian Acton, the WhatsApp co-founder who has publicly criticized Facebook’s privacy practices.

So what's your take on this, will you be ditching WhatsApp too?

”If a service is free then the product the company is selling is you.” I keep seeing this from time to time and forgetting. Nothing concerns me. Other companies do worse. WhatsApp has done this for the longest time, they only made it public for reasons unknown. God knows what this forum carries out with our information behind the scenes. I have an idea because I’ve come across numerous emails from mushroom political groups. I laugh then delete them.

You're absolutely correct, almost every app and website we use collect our data.

Because of its new terms and condition which warrant whatsapp to share one's data with Facebook

All they are asking is for you to tap a button, to give you an illusion of control.

But in reality, they already have access.

As long as you're active online, they have you.

If you're ditching WhatsApp due to this, it means you're dumb.

It's like jumping from one devil to another, making it worse cause now, two devils have your data.

They are all the same. Don't be deceived. Even the so called alternatives recommended. This is the age of data. Whoever controls that rules. Everyone one them mines & sells your data. The only way to disconnect is to become a modern cave dweller. And even then you're still within the surveillance of spy satellites

Only a fool thinks there's one platform where his "privacy" is guaranteed even VPN services that write bla bla about "not storing" nothing about you are plain lying!

So all this nonsense talk about ditching one platform for privacy concern is a waste of time! The moment you hook up online, they have you! I mean they some data about you!

Google is the low-key beast in all of this!

Problem started when some European court ordered that Facebook should make their privacy policy open, they decided to publish what they had already been doing ever since

People won't pay to use WhatsApp
People don't want ads on WhatsApp
People don't want to pay by allowing WhatsApp to mine their data .
In summary, people just want WhatsApp for free with no strings attached.

I find it rather uninteresting.

Not my kind of social media platform.

So, why did you choose to opt back in even after opting out that first time?
