LOCKDOWN OF SCHOOLS IS DOING MORE HARMS THAN GOOD

To whom it may concern,

It is audible to the deafs and visible to the blinds that COVID19 is a critical deadly disease with visible and known symptoms. The Federal Government shutdown schools throughout last year and also released compulsive covid19 precautionary protocols like wearing of face mask, social distancing among others.

It is an established fact that some students have spent roughly 2years in a same class or level. Students in promotion classes like Primary 5/6 , JSS3, SS3, 400/500level etc remains stagnant and thereby making it difficult for jambites to get admitted. It is very obvious that most people don’t even believe that COVID19 is real. We can recall that some years ago when there was heavy malaria outbreak, one of the antidotes that helped in controlling it was education (public lectures and orientation) and distribution of treated mosquito nets, enforcement of environmental sanitation excercise cum medical attentions and all those steps contributed a lot in the quest to combat malaria.

However, closing down of schools will not bring lasting solution to the spread of covid19 rather it will increase the rate of ignorance in the society. Thus, we can use the tertiary and secondary schools as a point of contact to further orientate and educate Nigerians about the symptoms of covid19, preventive measures and further helpful information about this satanic virus.
Closing down the education sector in a time like this will lead to a heavy outbreak of ignorance which is the greatest form of virus. The schools, known to be a civil social society where sanity is generated, Covid19 education is advised to be included in school’s curricula activities in all levels of education. It is believed that
“any danger a man knows about can no longer hunt him” and this can be done easily through the educationa sector.

Hence, we request that all schools should be opened because all schools, according to findings, are prepared for safe reopening and are ready to enforce covid19 safety protocols.

Moreover, any further attempt by the Federal Government to shut down schools will lead to mass action. It is nothing but the truth that our government has made education in Nigeria so unaffordable while we are averagely sad and now, if you decided to make education unaccessible we wont hesitate to shut down the NATION.
