London (CNN Business)Heineken is cutting 8,000 jobs and trying to "move beyond beer" after the pandemic hammered sales.

The brewer of Moretti and Amstel said in an earnings statement on Wednesday that it will slash almost 10% of its global workforce and seek savings of €2 billion ($2.4 billion) over two years as part of an overhaul designed to improve efficiency.
The restructuring will cost about €420 million ($509 million) and reduce head office staff costs by 20%. Regional offices and local operations will also be impacted.
Heineken (HEINY) reported a net loss of €204 million ($247.6 million) in 2020, compared with a profit of €2.2 billion ($2.7 billion) the previous year. Revenue tumbled 16.7% to €23.8 billion ($28.9 billion) amid closures of restaurants and bars in key markets, as well as other restrictions on social gatherings and alcohol sales.
"The impact of the pandemic on our business was amplified by our on-trade [pubs, bars and restaurants] and geographic exposure," CEO Dolf van den Brink, who took charge in June last year, said in a statement.
Heineken estimates that at the end of January less than 30% of bars and restaurants were operating in Europe, which is its biggest market. Many countries in the region reimposed lockdowns in December and have tightened restrictions since. Heineken said it has written off €191 million ($231.6 million) relating to various individual UK pubs.

With the way they want COVID-19 to be permanent via different strains, until they've sold up all their stock of vaccines or created entirely new viruses, it's obvious getting a pint won't be good business anymore. Pity to all the pub owners.

IoT is their best bet.

What makes you think they're creating new strains of the virus?
Do you realize the vaccines are already less effective against new strains of the virus?
Do you also realize that global losses due to lockdown outweigh any profits from vaccines?

Why wouldn't they create new strains when the virus is already established as man-made?
The people making the vaccines already are making profits, otherwise you don't think they are so kind to do it without gaining something in return.

There is no fact establishing the virus as man-made. There are just opinions at this point depending on who you listen to.
There's always someone making profits from every unfortunate situation, and big pharma are not the first and neither will they be the last.

It's not opinions. Do a search yourself.

So you've admitted they are making a profit. Why should the virus end when you can get over a billion dollars from each human to be vaccinated?

Simply create new strains and sell new vaccines.

Your numbers don't make any sense. There's nothing on Earth that can earn anyone a billion dollars per head, unless the dollar is Zimbabwean dollars.
Malaria will not end simply because we decide to stop buying anti-malarial drugs, it doesn't work that way.

About the billion dollars... if you want to look at the seemingly ambiguous statement from one angle and sound ridiculous about Zimbabwean dollars, fine.
Malaria isn't a lab manufactured viral disease. Try and make similar comparisons. It is not Pandemic.

COVID19 isn't a 'lab manufactured' disease simply because you feel it is.
Nature brews death all the time and this not the first.
And, yes, your billion dollar statement was ridiculous.

1. Your are ridiculous because your brain cannot process the ambiguous billion dollar statement. Use your brain and look at the other meaning. You still can't. It could be your deliberate inability to comprehend, or it could still be your inability to comprehend. Comprehension is a difficult skill nowadays. Especially for you.

2. My feelings and yours have nothing to do with the origins of COVID-19 from a Wuhan lab. Your "nature brews death all the time" has refused to brew such a virus in Nigeria or anywhere else except China(SARS, swine flu, bird flu). Do yourself a favor and read up on COVID-19. Not following your feelings.

3. I'm not going to reply someone whose brain is a flat line and cannot understand simple statements except it's the ridiculous way he wants it to look.

You initially said they make no profits, but that was a ridiculous feeling you had. Then you tried to equate malaria to COVID-19. Nigga, GTFOH.

You're pained. Admit you goofed with the billion dollar statement and get about doing whatever you do with your time.
You're definitely hallucinating with the bolded.
