Have just bought some dry Calabar specie pumpkin (ugwu)seeds. The woman assured me it will grow but after I got home, a farmer told me dry ones don't germinate. From experience,can dry Ugwu seed still germinate?

Pardon that I didn't mentioned this earlier. Have planted dried Ugwu seeds that refused to germinate. I know many seeds are better planted dried but it seems Ugwu is exceptional.

it is ugu not ugwu. I am not aware that dry ugu seed can germinate but try it first. Why not wait till planting season to buy and plant fresh ones.

Try it from now till Jesus come dry Ugu seed will never germinate. it is like planting already dried cocoa bean and expect it to germinate

I will try but i am having enough clues it won't germinate.

Based on my experience with ugu seed. A completely dried ugu will never germinate but if it has moisture in it, it will surely germinate. I sent ugu seeds to Austria last 2 weeks and I had to sun dry it for 2 days but it still has a little moisture. The woman chatted me up yesterday that they are already germinating. I am also preparing another I want to send to USA by weekend. So that is what I will tell u from my experience

The fresh once are always rare at this time and you will not get the best variety.

Just two days of drying still makes your Ugu seed still fresh. I think some of my seed are fresh only inside the pod. I will plant these once for trial tomorrow.
