Chief Leemon Ikpea In Messy Divorce Scandal by Anayo1997: 8:10am On Mar 01, 2021
Chief, Leemon Ikpea, the 64 year old Billionaire Oil Services magnate behind the Lee Engineering Services Limited Group of Companies is reported to now be embroiled in a very messy divorce scandal with his wife of over 39 years, Mrs. Agnes Ikpea.

Sources have told our reporters that Chief Leemon Ikpea, a devout Catholic, first married his wife, Agnes, under native law and custom, over 39 years ago. Around 20 years ago, and in seeking full compliance with the strictures of the Catholic faith, the couple renewed their vows at the St. Leo’s Catholic Church, Toyin Street, Ikeja Lagos. The couple have six adult children.

Unfortunately for Mrs. Agnes Ikpea, however, her husband’s roving eyes fell on a younger lady named Tina Ochuko sometime in 2002 resulting in Chief Ikpea’s decision to marry the new lady under native law and custom. In a very short time, Chief Ikpea moved his new bride into his sprawling mansion in Banana Island, Ikoyi, Lagos, where he resided for many years with both women.

Trouble started brewing late last year when, in a fit of anger, Chief Lee Ikpea told his older wife, Agnes, that he wanted a divorce from her. This is notwithstanding that, Catholics who marry in a Catholic Church and under the Marriage Act, are not known to entertain thoughts of divorce.
To give effect to his desires to be rid of his older wife very quickly (possibly so that he can now marry his younger wife legally), Chief Lee Ikpea instituted proceedings at the High Court of Edo State, sitting in Benin City. It is very curious to note that Chief Ikpea instituted this matter in Benin City, whereas he and his wife both reside in Lagos, and have no connection whatsoever with Benin City. Intelligence reports reaching us indicate that the choice of Benin City may not be unconnected with Chief Ikpea’s desire to rush the divorce through a pliant court.

Indeed, this view was given credence by a very strange court ruling delivered on 17th February 2021 by Justice Joe Acha of the Edo State High Court. In this ruling, Justice Acha granted an application brought by Chief Ikpea and ordered Mrs. Agnes Ikpea to vacate their family home in Banana Island, Lagos, and to keep away from Chief Lee Ikpea permanently.

Our reporter interviewed Barrister Nelson Obhorieme, a prominent divorce practitioner in Benin City about this ruling and his views are that this is a very strange ruling and one that he has never come across before in his 19 years of practice. According to Barrister Obhorieme, “ordering the respondent to vacate her matrimonial home during the pendency of divorce proceedings, has the effect of determining the divorce case prematurely”. According to him, the Judge has already decided the matter and there is nothing left to adjudicate on.

Relying on the strength of this very curious ruling, Chief Lee Ikpea then resorted to self help and proceeded the very next day, 18th February 2021, to engage aseveral burly men to physically throw his wife out of the home they shared. In a lightning gestapo-like move, Chief Ikpea and his hired underlings physically carried Mrs. Agnes Ikpea out of the one room that she had been confined to in the palatial home, and dumped her out the gate of their No. 3, Abuja Road, Banana Island, Ikoyi residence. Mrs. Ikpea was not even allowed the simple courtesy of putting on any shoes or slippers. The bewildered Mrs. Ikpea remained on the Street for over two hours until two of her daughters came to pick her up.

Asked to comment on the sordid matter, Mrs. Ikpea refused to say much other than that she is grateful to God for her life and the lives of her children and that she leaves Chief Leemon Ikpea to his conscience and to the judgement of God.

Several calls and text messages to Chief Leemon Ikpea’s phone number to seek his side of the story were unanswered and unreplied.
The next phase in this sordid saga will shift to the High Court in Benin City on the 3rd of March where, in another very curious action, Justice Joe Acha granted Chief Ikpea’s application for an accelerated hearing, and adjourned the matter to that date for hearing of the substantive divorce petition.
