Operatives of Abia State Police Command have arrested a syndicate who specialize in pre-registration and sale of SIM cards against the NCC directive.

The arrest follows an intelligence report received on 25/02/2021 at about 100hrs by the command that a syndicate of SIM card vendors were selling pre-registered SIM cards at Isi-gate Umuahia.

A team of operatives from Central police station Umuahia swung into action, leading to the arrest of five first suspects.

Upon investigation, more suspects including PRINCE HIGHSON an MTN Momo Agent/ staff in Umuahia were also arrested.

Recall that the Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC) recently advised and warned against the sale, purchase, and use of pre-registered SIM cards in the country.

This was to curtail the use of such Cards in carrying out criminal activities such as kidnapping, Call Masking, Threat to lives, Bulling, Armed Robbery, and Identity Theft, Financial Crimes, and SIM Swap fraud among others.

ABN TV gathered that one of the suspects, ANGELA JOHNSON was caught linking another person's National Identity Number (NIN) to one of the pre-registered SIM cards.

Others have also confessed to their different levels of involvement in the act.

Meanwhile, 69 pre-registered SIM cards of different networks have been recovered while investigation continues.

The names of the suspects are as follows: Angela Johnson(f) Age 31, Promise Oluomachi(f) Age32, Sunday Esther(f) Age 21, Chris Nwaka(m)35, Onyegbula Ezenwa(m)Age 27, Nnanna Sunnyking Chijioke ‘M’(SIM Distributiotor in Umuahia) Age 47, Prince Highson (M)Age 25, Daniel Chidozie ‘M’(SIM Supplier from Aba).

They are expected to be arraigned upon the completion of investigation.

I don't understand the continued ban on the registrstion of new SIM cards. Criminals like this wouldn't exist if they didn't place the pointless embargo on new SIM cards.

These people are only responding to a demand in the market by fraudulently helping others obtain sim cards.

At least allow those with a valid NIN number to buy and register new phone lines. For months now, I haven't been able to get an internet modem for work for this very reason.

Has the stoppage of new sim card sale reduced banditry or terrorism? Sometimes I wonder how some of the very worst people in this country rose to leadership positions to mislead the rest of us.

why do you people always reason like people without brain? How will stop terrorism without braking their means of communication.
Anyway, I don't expect you to know any better considering the short tail that you have.

Long tail cave-man, let me be brief for facts sake, do u know the FG declared Zamfara No-Flight-Zone? Did u know the FG alleged that private jets/airplane transport arms to bandits and BH likewise?

Olodo, who do u think is capable of all these without the rich and affluent insiders.

U see? They know what's going on...

So, next time, since u are empty upstairs don't come close to my timeline

Bastards. Linking innocent customers nin to Sims they'll later sell at exorbitant prices. Some of the Armed robbers and Kidnappers terrorizing the East end up using Sims like this to perpetrate crime and the individuals whose nin is connected to the Sims will be roped into a crime they know nothing of. For those here saying rubbish, pray your nin is not attached to a sim used for heinous crime.
