Before we delve into Growatt Hybrid Inverters and its features, let’s take a quick look at inverters generally. An inverter is an electronic device that converts the direct current (DC) electricity from sources such as solar or batteries to Alternating current (AC) electricity. To put it quite succinctly, Inverters convert DC current – which is not readily useable for standard electric appliances into AC current – which is what powers electrical appliances and devices in facilities.

Prior to the invention of hybrid inverters, solar-inverter systems had a central inverter for all the panels which serve the entire system. The drawback of the central inverter is a single point of failure. With the central inverter, if one of the panels develops a fault due to dirt or shading, it would affect the performance of the whole system. In addition to this, non-hybrid inverters usually give the following problems;

- Overloading
- Short circuit and earth leakage fault
- The need for an external charge controller
- Unequal rating: A power factor of 0.8, meaning the KVA rating will not be equal to the wattage rating
