oil spills in Nigeria can be caused by any one from any part of the country... its up to the indigenes to arrest and prosecute vandals... another problem is the oil company is owned by foreigners and not any of the indigenes..

indigenes will have more passion to improve the infrastructure of the communities.

Na lie.
Just like your government has more passion to develop Nigeria?

If you put your hope on indigenous oil companies you are lost.

people like desmond are inconsiderate and elitist.. he just wants to do something so that people won't say he didn't do anything... I can't even say will he have done better if he had more funds...

you have a negative mentality concerning Nigerian enterpreneurs so I doubt you're a Nigerian. if indigenes move in , the business will be successful and if its not successful the community will have improved because indigenes will want to impress the community.

how can you judge and conclude what indigenes will do when they haven't be given a chance.. I mean university educated indigenes and not the likes of t:ompolo, as:ari d:okubo e.t.c.

Have you worked for an indigenous firm before?

You are saying a different thing.
Shell has no business with your Islamic terrorism; blame the NNPC/federal government.
Shell is an Anglo-Dutch E&P company.
BTW, Niger Delta people always burst their pipelines to steal their oil.
When there's oil spill from that criminal activity, the same community will turn around to blame it on the company.
That's why they are selling off their onshore stakes.
ND people vandalize their pipelines on land.
If you haven't lived with those people, you won't know the "headache" they put the IOCs through.
In fact, in Rivers, Delta and Bayelsa, people are making lots of money from pipeline vandalism.

I concur 100%

THIS ONE NA REAL USE AND DUMP NIGERIA SORRY BUT YOUR OIL IS NOW WORTHLESS THE WORLD HAS TRANSITIONED TO CLEANER MEANS OF ENERGY AND LEFT YOU BEHIND ITS REASON WHY THEY HAVE NOW ALLOWED YOU TO FINALLY BUILD YOUR REFINERIES WHICH WOULD BECOME WORTHLESS IN THE LONG RUN AS THE ONLY PEOPLE WHO WOULD BE MAKING USE OF CRUDE OIL IS NIGERIANS OF WHICH THE UN AND ENVIRONMENTAL BODIES WOULD STILL TAX US HEAVILY FOR ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION.

Renewable energy is pipe dream.

Only one hurricane would put the whole World 50years back if we are to rely on renewable energy.

It does not matter.
Shell will still be legally responsible for all already happened spills for next 50 years or more whether they own the assets or not, and they know that.

So the truth,
Shell has probably gotten advance Intel from UK MI5 on likelihood of total collapse in Nigeria.

The real gist is that @Real Donald Trump already demanded the desolution, but UK asked for 8 years to divest. Dear Joe is not against the idea either. But from look of things

Some change in strategy is advancing things quickly, so to be on safe side, Shell has done its world famous scenario planning, and decided to move faster than 8 years. Better get something than end up with zero due to Nationalisation.

Only a fool will buy under Nigeria Govt. Oil and gas assets they will not own, new country. But am sure the Wale Tinubus, Emeka Offors, and Peter's will rush to buy, then later start to cry.

Dreamer.
If that is true they would have also sold their offshore asset or is that one not covered by Nigerian sovereignty?

power sector is a part of the economy that requires the use of gas from eastern Nigeria and FG has not invested in gas from eastern Nigeria until recently in the ajaokuta kaduna kano gas pipeline...

one thing you must understand about Nigeria and I don't understand why the southern politicians act dumb and dull is that until a northern Nigerian starts the business no other person can go into it or until northern nigeria get 24hr power then no other part of Nigeria can get 24hrs power..

Once dangote refinery is complete and other refineries in the niger delta are completed that's when you'll see improvement..

there are already indigenous companies doing exploration, in fact, if not for the civil war and colonialism foreign companies like sh:ell should never be in Nigeria sending profits back to the U:K and h:olland...

in summary
As long as its owned by indigenes then the profits stays in that state and from those profits will come social responsibilities to that community...

right now, sh:ell's social responsibility is to the U:k and H:olland...

You sound like an Illiterate.

Without Shell did Nigerians knew that their was anything like crude oil? how much more how to extract it.

How many Nigerians in before Olobiri was discovered knew what an oil well or reservoir was? how much more how it works .
All over the World multinationals operate in foreign countries and send profit back to their home countries or less your country is in Mars.

From your writeup you are insinuating that Shell and the other MOC are one of the reason why Nigeria is not developed, thats wrong becos in Qatar,Kuwait, Saudi, UAE ,this MOCs operate in those countries and those countries are developed and are doing just fine.

They did the right thing. After bursting their pipelines they still go to court and bribe judges to get million dollar settlement for oil spillage in the community

Offshore assets are way easier to defend and renegotiate. One UK naval vessel sitting around will make everybody reluctant to annex, and force the new country to negotiation table.

Lol. My firm does contract installations for them. Also a guy who works for me was close to them. He almost joined them.

It's not a top secret. If you talk to people around Delta, or PH, they'll tell you what goes on.

Indigenous companies do not have the deep pockets or patience required for big ticket projects. They can only manage marginal fields.

it wasn't you I quoted and even if it wasn't you I quoted you still didn't finish reading my comment.. especially where I said "how can you judge and conclude what indigenes will do when they haven't be given a chance"..

for indigenous companies to have deep pockets and patience they need to start from somewhere and most importantly they need to be given a chance...

would you be happy if you own an indigenous company and you're getting ₦20million contracts and then another company that has never done business with you but sees that you've been doing the ₦20million contract well and offers you ₦50billion contract but people from the community where your company operates start saying your company cannot carry out a ₦50billion contract because you're an indigenous company?

There is little to no logic in this your statement.

Please don't near Anambra and it's environs. Don't extend your environmental pollution and vegetation destruction to oil rich Anambra cool.

Oil production should be stopped in Nigeria for it to grow.

Haters of the Israelites (Igbos) have been severely pained and disturbed about Anambra being an oil rich state.

Meanwhile....
You really think Israelites are related to Igbos or was it a metaphor?
