Tesla Begins Using A Camera In The Cabin Of Electric Cars To Monitor Drivers by RelatedTechNews: 4:26am On May 29, 2021
Tesla began using cameras installed in the interior of electric cars Model 3 and Model Y to monitor the behavior of drivers when the autopilot is on. About this writes The Verge.

The description of this function says that the camera installed over the cabin rear-view mirror monitors the driver - if the algorithm detects that the person behind the wheel is distracted from the road, trusting the autopilot, the system will warn the driver. The description does not specify in what cases the car will warn the driver, and how this warning will look.

Note that Tesla now uses sensors in the steering wheel to monitor drivers, which record that the driver has his hands on the steering wheel. This technology has been criticized for its low reliability - some Tesla owners have shown different ways to cheat the system, allowing them to remove their hands from the steering wheel when autopilot is on.

Experts urged Tesla to solve this problem, but until recently the head of the company Elon Musk refused to listen to these requests, and he called the attention control technology itself ineffective, although other car manufacturers with driver assistance systems already use cameras to monitor the attention of drivers. It is possible that the position of the head of Tesla was influenced by two recent fatal accidents involving Tesla electric cars in the United States. The authorities are still investigating these accidents - according to preliminary data, in one case the accident involved a Tesla car with autopilot turned on.
