It was a gloomy day at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ede as all and sundry paid tribute to the five Prospective Corps Members (PCMs) who lost their lives in an auto crash on Wednesday.

The State Coordinator, Mr Ayodele Adegoke expressed extreme sadness at the news and prayed that a repeat of such never happens again.

"As it is the directive of the Director General of the NYSC, we will observe a two minutes silence and fly our flags half mast as it will be observed in all camps across the country in paying tribute to the fallen heroes.


"We commiserate with the families of the PCMs that lost their lives and pray that God grant the deceased everlasting rest. Moreover, we also pray for quick recovery for those that sustained different degrees of injuries in the accident."


It would be remembered that the tragic car accident that claimed the lives of five prospective members of the National Youth Service Corps happened on the Abaji-Kwali Expressway in Abuja, and The NYSC Director, Press and Public Relations, Adenike Adeyemi has confirmed the incident.

By way of addition, PCM Bankole Eniola Emmanuel of Orientation Broadcasting Service (OBS) wrote an eulogy in their memory, titled "Fallen But Loved". It is reproduced below:

Our heart really melted when we heard the news of your death. This could only be possible because we have blood running in our veins and flesh called skin covering our internal organs.

You really mean so much to us. If only we can see you and read to you the scripts carrying our love poems, you would have known love got depths and we are expressing from the deepest.

Our deepest fear is not that your parents will cry, our deepest fear is that angels might ask you why you didn't bid us farewell before leaving us. You are forever in our hearts.

And to us who are alive, we shouldn't even think it is by our power unless we've never took a ride or tread the street. We are only saved by GOD's mercies.

What then is expected of us? Let's live our life to the fullest putting in mind why we are here.
Let's not forget that the 5 corps members who lost their lives on the Abaji/Kwali expressway were going to uphold the values of Honesty, Oneness and Unity which are paramount to the scheme.

Death may have cheated you but our love will never do.
