Nigeria is an embarrassing country.... Like wtf are officials taking athletes phones for? So they can bring it to Nigeria and sell them?

The corruption in this country is just too much.... Anywhere you put a Nigerian person in power, it's just how to make money or cheat others he's after......no zeal to work or make things better.

Little wonder why we are so messed up sports wise and other sectors.... Just look at how under par our performance has been all-rounder at the Olympics.... It has been mentally challenged for all these athletes.

We don't do well in the olympics because we cannot afford the facilites, expertise, structures, etc that countries who do well in the olympics have.

Sure, Kenya and Ethopia have been winning gold medals, mostly in running. In other sports....nil.

Also, apart from football, we don't have enough of a talent pool in most sports because people are not interested in them.

If you want to know when they say Nigeria fvcks u up, this is it. Check this out;

"The Nigeria Olympic Committee like all other NOCs had received the phones on behalf of their athletes but could not extend such gestures to the ineligible athletes as they tried to abide by the rules."

This problem was caused by the NOC because they weren't serious enough to collect test samples on intervals and submitted anyhow documents. They ruined their athletic careers, Olympics was lenient enough to give them Samsung phones, una seize am.

This is pure EVIL

If not for this intervention people sweat for just go out of incompetence.

Please i don't understand this type of ambiguity usually seen in news posted here sometimes by some people.
Do well to authenticate your report and the competency of the source before posting news on this site.

The earlier report about this matter from a different OP made it clear that the phones had been released by the Olympic authorities and Samsung to the Nigerian officials, and that it was the Nigerian officials that were holding back the phones from the athletes, but now this news is painting a different picture as if it is the IOC that was holding back the phones from the athletes.

What type of phoney contradiction is this?

Re: IOC Backtrack, Returns Samsung Phones To Nigerian Athletes by naptu2: 11:18am On Jul 30, 2021
The issue only affected the ten athletes who were excluded because of drug testing issues. The Athletics Federation of Nigeria failed to ensure that ten athletes were dope tested. These athletes were therefore excluded from the Olympics. The rules say that athletes that are disqualified from the Olympics would not get the phones. However, these athletes were excluded and so the Nigerian officials had to write to the International Olympic Committee to seek approval for the athletes to get the phones. That approval has now been given.

We want the names of the officials that initial refused to give the phones to the athletes.
What rubbish is that after they have dragged the name Nigeria down.

Thank you. We will improve as a Nation when we become evidence minded. Let’s be having names, interviews, follow ups, when things happen, instead of just one sided verbal and written report that something took place. Evidence exposes guilty parties - they can’t hide behind anonymity - while freeing others from being tarnished by association if not rumours.

I still am none the wiser about those that supposedly fought and stabbed one another in a lift in Dubai resulting in some deaths. What are their names, where are the interviews, who are they, what happed to them after?

Hmm

1.In a previous report, it was alleged that it was Nigerian officials who witheld the phone. Now, it seems it was the IOC.

I know Nigerian athletics has its corruption issues, but that previous report was a lie.

2.The ten Nigerian athletes who missed tests, that was their fault. It is not the job of the federation to inform them of the tests, or to see to it that they do the tests, it is the atheltes themselves who submit an address to the testers, who may come at a time when the athlete does not expect them. A trick to stop widespread doping in sprts.

The first part of your post is correct, but the second part is not correct. It is the fault of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria and they have accepted that they are to blame.

The AFN is meant to get the addresses from the athletes and then facilitate the drugs tests. The athletes say that they were asked for their addresses and they provided them, but they were never tested. The AFN said that the problem was caused by a mix up in the Federation (there has been a crisis in the AFN for a while) and they have now appointed someone to oversee their anti-doping programme.

However, this has often led to controversy because some athletes and officials at the games are unable to get the phones. Iranian and North Korean athletes could not receive the special Olympic edition Samsung Galaxy Note 8 that was given to athletes at the 2018 Winter Olympics in China because of UN sanctions.

https://www.theverge.com/2018/2/7/16988272/north-korea-2018-winter-pyeongchang-olympic-edition-samsung-galaxy-note-8-sanctions-iran

The rules also say that athletes that are disqualified from the games would not receive the phones (that is the cause of the recent crisis over the Nigerian athletes that were excluded from the games due to issues around drug testing).

But it is the job of the federation to regulate/select what each athlete eat. It shows the people tasked with that responsibility were doing their jobs.

The quote below from the OP (which he made to correct a misassumption I had about the disqualification) gives an answer. Long story short...the AFN (Athletics Federation of Nigeria) messed up.

The place where a river begins is called its source. River sources are also called headwaters. Rivers often get their water from many tributaries, or smaller streams, that join together. The tributary that started the farthest distance from the river's end would be considered the source, or headwaters.
