You're minding the original poster from Facebook saying his parent said they do. It's the condition the church put them in case any of them die so that they can be buried according to the church rite. It happens in Catholic and Anglican churches. I know this because my grandma got married few years ago in church so that they'll be the one to bury her when she die.

Marriage is a just social ceremony/signed contract/customary tradition, that is pushed by the church, state and tribesmen respectively.

It is not what keeps two people together.
