Hello Investors,

I need a honest advise. Is it more profitable to invest in the Nigerian Stock Exchange (via mytradebook.com, meristem or Arm) or American Stock Exchange (via Passfolio, Bamboo etc)?

I have been monitoring the markets for a while now, and it seems the Nigerian stock exchange listed companies share prices have very minimal daily movements as compared to their American counteparts.

For example, In 1 year, there is a stock in the US called ROKU https://www.investing.com/equities/roku, it moved from $158 USD to $358USD as we speak, but the same can't be said of ABC Transport https://www.reuters.com/companies/ABCTRAN.LG/charts or VERITASKAP - https://cn.reuters.com/companies/VERITASKAP.LG/charts

Even Facebook - FB https://www.investing.com/equities/facebook-inc from $251 in September 2020 to $363 in August 2021
Chipolte Mexican Grill - CMG - https://www.investing.com/equities/chipotle-mexican-grill-inc from $1,220 in 13th Sept. 2020 to $1,920 in Aug 2021 not to talk of Netflix, Nvidia etc

My point is it seems the American markets have good daily movements than the Nigerian Stock Exchange. Kindly prove me wrong? Is it wise to invest in the NSE or the American Stock Exchange.

I know the NSE might have good daily movers, kindly advise which ones please; you can add a disclaimer to your picks since it won't constitute a financial advise.

Also please share your experience using the Investment Apps (Passfolio, Bamboo, Meristem or Arm Invest). I have used some local players and I must confess, after I sold the stocks and waiting for 2 days from the Central Clearing House, i got my funds plus the profit. Is it wise to use the foreign players like Passfolio, how easy is it to withdraw. Also exchange rate stuff when funding the foreign players, on Passfolio funding via Flutterwave is $1 = NGN522.

Thanks.

Foreign stocks are better with more fluid movement than local stocks.

Have you funded your Passfolio account? I tried finding mine today but wasn't possible.

If yes, how did you go about it?

I have never tried funding my Passfolio account, I know it uses Flutterwave and it'll ask you to send funds to a Wema bank account, but I have never tried it.

Things to consider is also the exchange rate as $1 is now NGN524; today, 25th August, 2021.

It seems you're asked to send the receipt to Passfolio when you fund the Wema bank account, then they would credit your trading account.

I just want to hear other people's experience

Oh...yes i saw that Wema Account just below. I would give it a trial with maybe $10

But why should they charge NGN524 as against NGN412...that's a total rip off to me o!

Just forget about Nigeria stocks and invest in foreign stocks if you value your money.

If you are speculating (in other words, your primary means of profiting in the market is via price changes), then the NSE is not really good for that. Stick to the American markets where there are no artificial caps on the volatility of stock prices.

If you are a true investor (investing primarily for cash flow), then either is actually fine as your ability to select stocks is far more important than the market you are investing in
