You misinterpret the word “basic”

Passing is a basic football skill, whether you're a striker, defender, midfielder or goalkeeper. You don't have to be a creative passer. That branch of passing is specific to midfielders, just as scoring is to strikers, defending is to defenders and goalkeeping is to goalkeepers.
