The guy confessed he was half-caste. By the way, the whites that fled to England are the ones that came from England during England's colonization. The Boers on the other hand, have were those Dutch that arrive pre-colonization, as far back as the 1600s. They renounced their country and over the years, mixed up with other migrants that came to join them.

@thabo, the question here is south Africa the real giant of Africa and many people on this tread are not really disputing south Africa's might but we are taking a look at it in a 3d view. The fact that the blacks there are not totally in control automatically counts and disputes south Africa from being the giant because all of those racism sanctions don't really apply to south Africa at this time due to the whites there. If u want to act like u guys run things then mauritus and other African places occupied by foriegners are almost at par with South Africa. Nigeria on the other hand is coming up sluggishly but steadily and still yet we intervene in many conflicts in Africa to ensure calm and peace but u guys have watched your next door neighbor zimbabwe maim and cause havoc to our brothas on that side of Africa; instead of settling the matter u guys are spending a lot of time claiming half caste and caste half to the point that the country is now becoming a mess than during apartheid era.
  Hopefully there are few people like u in SA because if the whites there want to use u guys as a front as usual u should let them know that west Africa is off limit because Naija will not be victimized and Naija will not watch that happen in this region not especially from u guys.

Nigeria is the real giant of Africa, despite its many problems. Forget economic stats.
South Africa is really a European enclave in Africa.
Blacks in SA are empowered by law, not by dint of hard work, but on the economic front, nothing has really changed.
We have plenty problems in Nigeria, but we can't be compared to any other Black nation.
As per butcherings and killings, SA has more than its fair share of inter-tribal violence (Zulus/Xhosas, ANC/IFP wars, etc).

I've visited SA a number of times. You know the effect? You don't even see black people on the streets until you get to places like Hillsbro in Joburg and Sea Point in Cape Town. Na so so white and Indians. When you do see a black, they look like homeless people, shabby and desperate.

Though a Nigerian, I will be lying and deceiving myself if I say Nigeria is the real giant in Africa. South Africa (SA) is. But I will never live in SA even for the whole world.

Actually not only SA, but several other African countries enjoy better facilities than Nigeria. Botswana, Seycheles, Ghana, Namibia and also Gabon are examples. Gabon may be worse than naija in terms of democracy, but the living standard is better over there. Nigeria is at best a sleeping or a clay-footed giant that needs to wake up and take its rightful place. If not for our BASTARD leaders (may they all rot in hell), who is SA to even compete with Nigeria?

I have often thought about the fact that Nigeria is in fact not the giant of Africa. What does it take to be a giant, of Africa for that matter. Setting a peace keeping pace in AU when your very own backyard is wallowing in systematic destruction? Let us be wotver we already are or what we have once been, if we dont sit down to critically assess our past and determine our future, we'd lose out on the gains of globalisation.

Imagine the supposed giant of Africa competing with SA n Egypt for a seat in the UN security council, why on earth should a giant compete with one who isnt a giant, isn't this the same reason Goliath thought he could destroy Isreal - we all got the surprise  from young David.

There are a lot of sensitive issues that I wouldnt dare mention on this forum, let's face it, Nigeria can not uprightly proclaim the title of a giant in Africa, at least not Now.
