How Many Owners Know Where Their Vehicle VIN Is Located? by Nobody: 11:24am On May 30, 2011
With the spate of emails I receive from Nairalanders, stating their vehicle sellers failed to provide them with a VIN, I have decided to start this thread.

How many owners of vehicles know the location of the VIN? How many owners have verified the VIN on their vehicles match the VIN details in their vehicle registration documents? Has anyone ever bought a vehicle, and later found that the VIN was missing, had been deliberately been removed? Or the metalwork surrounding the VIN looked like it had been cut out, and new metal welded in?

Is VIN important, as in are there any owners that aren't bothered if the vehicle they've bought has a valid VIN, as long as the said vehicle is mechanically sound? Have any owners had vehicles imported from the United States, United Kingdom, Europe, Cotonou etc, only to discover the VIN tags / stamps were missing upon arrival?

Please share your experiences. We can all learn a great deal from this.
